Savage Target Action

Epp's was listing 'em a few months back. However, your local gun shop can order one for you. Expect to pay up front.

I brought one in via IRunGuns a month ago or so. If you order now, you should see it in 4 or 5 weeks. (I say should, as mine ended up on a pallet that didn't make it north until the next export cycle, so it ended up being about 9 weeks of waiting, but I can't see a company doing that twice.)

Are you looking for a particular action screw spacing (i.e. do you already have a pre-inlet stock to put it on)? This is important, as Savage has made the Target Action with 2 different screw spacings - 3.44" (new) and 4.4" (old). Needless to say, my action came in with 4.4" spacing, when I had gambled on a 3.44" spacing, as I had the impression that they had switched from 4.4 to 3.44 a few years back. Well, either I read things wrong, or I got an older production (but unused) action. I've now got a brand new McMillan A5 stock that I don't really need with all the options and the 3.44" spacing... not sure what I'll do with it yet. It's just money, right? :(

Safest plan is to order the action, then when it arrives, find an appropriate stock. Of course, with McMillan having 6 month wait times, that's not a wonderful option... You might try specifying what spacing the screws are on the action ahead of time if you go the action-importing route, but if you get Joey Moron in shipping at the other end and the wrong box gets sent up, you're still perma-screwed...

Anyway, I hope you have better luck than I did - which shouldn't be hard... :)

Anyone know where to find savage stainless steel single shot target actions in Canada? Or have any suggestions where to start looking?

Thanks

GMK Armory in Thunder Bay has a couple of Savage Dual Port single short target actions in stock.

FYI, the dual-port model is the only one with the funny new spacing of 3.44"
The RBRP and RBLP models still have the "normal" 4.4" spacing. It took me a lot of researching to figure that out as it isn't common knowledge.

So the 4.4 spacing is not the "old" spacing. They still make and produce new actions an rifles with the 4.4 spacing? The dual port is the only stock with 3.4 spacing?

No kidding - I seriously spent a LOT of time looking everywhere for the info, and I still came up with the wrong answer... Where did you finally get the full answer from?

Thanks for posting this - I now know how to get an action to match my 3.44" stock!

I just got a single shot target action today in the mail, but it came with a heavy .204 ruger barrel & a HS precision stock called the model 12 LRPV.... :p :) I've been looking for a new one since they stopped making them only took a few years.

LRPV lists in my top 3 savage rifles of all times alongside the venerable 99, and the MK II (only because it's made here). Sweet action, amazing trigger, and a beautiful HS stock. I was lucky enough to buy an LRPV new right after they brought out the repeater model with the detachable magazine.

Everyone has a savage, but who has a stainless target action sitting in an HS precision stock with a 10 round magazine? Phenominal little rifle.
