value of FN made in Herstal

Just curious of the value of an original FN that was made in Belgium.
Gun is in good shape was purchased new in 84 has less than 200 rounds through it.

"...an original FN..." It completely original? Original FAL's were select fire. Very evil things.
Sadly, not much due to its prohibited status. The Socialist F**ks' FA caused drastic reductions in values with their silly 12(3) firearms law.
If it's not registered, it has zero value as no more prohibited firearms can be registered.

There were semi auto FNs built for civvie sales, so it would be 12 (5) if this is one of them.

I didn't see where the OP said it was unregistered so I'm not going to jump to conclusions.

Sadly, the market is very small as most don't want to buy a gun they can't shoot. That being said, there are a few FNs of different makes posted in the 12X forum from time to time but they don't move quickly. IIRC Wilke had a Belgian 12(2) or 12(3) for sale around the $1500 mark.

I own a few different types myself, but wouldn't buy another if I can't shoot it.

Yes I have an an FAL myself that has been rendered harmless by the rules. I pop riveted my mags to make them legal although they can never be used.

Also, if it is a 12/3 Ottawa whats to reinspect them (not sure if that is all or just some). That means a long wait before a buyer can get it (waiting 2.5 years on a FAL-G1 right now).

seen a 12.3 for 550.00 and a 12.5 for 1000.00, the 12.5 was overpriced, 700 maybe if you really wanted it that bad, just my thinking

Once again, you are wrong. Not all of them were select fire.

A FAL is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. What the owner thinks it is worth is totally irrelevant.

These prices of $1000 - $1500 are totally out of this world. I paid $125 for a minty L1A1. It hangs on my wall and is just as much use as if I had stapled the money to my wall. NOBODY is going to pay real money for a rifle they can't shoot.

We 12x owners used to be willing to sell and trade amongst ourselves but since the RCMP has decided they must take 2+ years to reinspect every rifle that gets sold, the market has essentially closed because nobody wants to spend money on a gun they won't have in their hands for 2+ years and then can never shoot after that.

A 12-3 or 12-5 FN aren't worth a great deal. These days even deactivated they aren't #### and click anymore.
I can buy them, but I don't want to invest much in them as there aren't many guys left to purchase them from me.

In a hypothetical world where the FAL,FN C1 and L1A1's were suddenly non-Restricted (one can dream!), I think a near mint FN C1 or Fabrique Belgian-made FAL would probably go for north of $2000. And a "junker" L1A1 maybe $1000. Ishapore versions might even command $600+...or about the same as an Airsoft FN FAL!

But its not, and of little value to the legal gun enthusiast in Canada.

"...not going to jump to conclusions..." Agreed. That's why one should ask. And why d_bona told us. No making a cake with a file in it.
"...IS HARPER GONNA..." Relax. Harper never said anything about doing anything to the FA but ending the long gun registry.
"...Once again, you are wrong. Not all of them were select fire...." Nope. You must have been a MCpl. Operative word is 'original FAL'.

...sigh. Ya. You are wrong, as you usually are.

I collect them, FAL's that is. I have not paid over $500 for near perfect metric or over $400 for a near perfect inch or over $100 for a good Indian in over 20 years. These days, I tend to pay less than that.

Sure, absolutely.

But, back when they were still just Restricted in 1985, I think one Vancouver store had FN Belgique FAL's for between $1500 to something like $2200 for the FALO heavy barrel/bipod variant. Not sure, but I think the Para FAL was around $1800+ ?

But that was a different era, different laws, different market really.
