second time this season truck does not want to starte and leaves me stranded at home.early moose for 1c the truck refuses to starte the day before im supposed to leave. infinity dealer cannot find the problem,and keeps changing ecus .truck goes into security mode and shuts it down.about a week later it startes and runs until sunday night, the day before opener for southern moose. same problem,dealer got it running tonight after clearing the codes and reprograming it.this truck appears to hate hunting.ill be going to trade it in in the morning ,cant run the risk of being stranded up north.damn thing ran fine for three years for the wife and started doing this to me.im just pissed ,im going to buy something that doesnt have a million computers in it.japanese vehicles are supposed to be so reliable,yah i dont think so. if i had a lot of disposable incom i would use it for target practice,video it and post it on u tube,should of bought the dodge diesel i was looking at.
 
Careful for what you wish for.
These new diesels have lots of computers in them too.
Google ford 6.0L or even Dodge 6.7 L Diesel and you will see what comes up;)
I wanted a 6.0 L Ford but have since been scared off due to the hi maintenance.
HPOP, FITCH , HPInjectors, EGR Valve, DEF additives, etc...
But, I feel for you too. My 92 4 Runner let me down going to work and cost me $500.

Ive still got my 90 dodge 3/4 ton that serves me well, no problem i cant fix, no fancy things in it, just 2 wires to start the truck needed, so unless ive got mechanical issues im golden. Ive looked at a new dodge diesel, damn i wish i had the $ to have that truck too.
 
These days, "reliable" seems to come in only one flavour: Old. This usually means, no electronics save the lights, charging and starting systems. However, usually, these are systems that you or I, with a little commons sense and nothing more complicated than a voltmeter, could fix ourselves.

New is always nice and shiny, but as you've found out, tends to fail at very inopportune moments. At least you're at home when it left you stranded. The truck could've left you stranded on some cold mountain in the middle of nowhere with a blizzard coming and night falling. Yeah right, onstar? You think they're gonna come and get you?

Old and reliable also usually means slow. But that's relative. I always say, I don't drive a slow truck. I drive a fast tractor.
 
I had an old diesel Jetta that hated my wife.
I know what you're going through.
Wear a suite or tux to fire it up.
Then go put your hunting gear on while it's warming up.
It could be best to take your tux with you though.
You may need to wear it again.
 
Buy a 90's dodge diesel with the Cummins inline 6 engine. 12 or 24 valves is fine. Anything that burns can go in the tank. I know a guy who has run used hydraulic oil through his for years. My dad had one, the body rotted off it before the engine gave up.
 
That's what I was thinking. I love my old trucks and couldn't bring myself to take the risk on a new one. Most people I know with a new vehicle are constantly taking them back for repairs, recalls etc. Its always something. My old '94 F150 starts every day no matter what. -35° without being plugged in, it doesn't care. That old 351 with nearly 300000 kms runs like a new truck. Sure it doesn't have 450 HP and can't pull a 20,000 lb gooseneck at 110 km/h uphill but I don't own a 20,000 lb gooseneck so it doesn't bother me. The only work I'll ever pay for is hairy exhaust work. None of this running back to the dealership several times a month cos my $70,000 truck broke down again for the third time this month.

Maybe Nissan Titan or Frontier or he might consider one of those giant SUVs a truck?

Either way, screw taking that thing into the bush if it doesn't start reliably.
 
And they can all sit there idling away in junk yards, bolted into a 6000 lb iron coffin. Was forced to use one for work, I think tanks ride nicer but that's just me.
 
I miss my 91 Toyota truck. Love my new Nissan Titan though. Just the other day I pulled my buddies lifted Ford off the beach where his 35s dug so deep he bottomed out.
