hello im looking for further ways of unifying my brass and doing a better job prepping it. the next thing i have had on my mind for a while is neck turning to get equal neck tension and extending my brass life a little as well as keeping the shoulder neck junction a straight angle not a slope after many firings. any pros and cons thoughts are appreciated. thanks

I just got interested with this same concept. I ordered a Forster case trimming lathe with the neck turning attachment. From the reviews online is sounds a little bit easier than doing it by hand with a hand turner. I should be able to try it in about a week to give some feedback, but there is alot to learn regarding proper neck turning. I was referencing the 6mmbr article, just good 6mmbr neck turning and a great article that explains in good detail should come up.

Google "Riflemans Journal" and type in neck turning in the search box. German Salazar writes a lot of the articles for accurate shooter and this is his site. It is filled with pretty much everything long range. I have met him in Phoenix and you could not find a writer with more experience. One whole lunch topic was primer design and his shooting ability reflects his writing.

thanks that was my next question what brand to get ? and i read alot of 6mmbr but missed that i guess

i use the one made by K&M precision, with the power adapter (aka put it in a drill) you can use a dial indicator so you know exactly how thick your necks are and how tick your turning them to as you go, its a bit small to hold , but they have an "ergo drip" release now that ill probably pick up, once set up, takes me about 45min to do 100 cases

can kind of see my set up HERE in my on going latest build thread

Take a look at Twenty First century shooting . They make a very good neck turning lathe and several other great products as well. Pleasure to deal with and fast shipping.

K&M tool is the best. don't mess with mini lathe versions. Get the K&Mca rbide turning mandrel with the donut cutter in your caliber. The steel expander mandrel will size your brass necks to fit the carbide one just right. Use anhydrous lanolin as a lube. Its a drug store pharmacy purchase. Turn your necks the minimum amount to true them for Factory chambers. Give at least 2 thous clearance for a loaded round for a known size tight neck chamber.
