I am going out bow hunting this year and in past years i have used just fixed blade broad heads. This i am going to try the rage 3 blade expandable. My questions is does my Horton Yukon with a 150lb draw back weight have enough energy to be sufficient. I surmise that i wont have a clean pass through. The reason why i went to the rage is because they come with a practice head and i don't have to worry about sitting in over and over with the fixed blade.

Where are you hunting from?

This is out of the Ontario regs for deer:

Crossbows must have a draw length
of at least 300 mm (11.8 in.) and a
draw weight of at least 45 kilograms
(99.2 lb.). At a minimum bolts must
have a 22 mm (0.87 in.) wide head
with at least two sharp cutting
edges.

So as far as legalities go, you're good. And I would think thats more than enough energy to get a pass-through if a compound drawing at 40# can achieve the same.

the regulations say nothing about passing through I doubt a 40lb pull from a vertical bow would pass though a deer I barely get pass throughs with my Barnett panzer V

The reason why I am asking is because as far as I know the rage heads don't deploy until they are in the deer there for a small entry hole for the deer to bleed out of if not a clean pass throught. If I am wrong I would like to know.

from what I've seen most expendable's tend to have blades break off even rage

My son achieved three complete pass through's on whitetail deer with his 40 lb. Browning Micro Midas, but was using a small 100 grain fixed broadhead (Rocket Steelhead)... as far as your 150 lb. crossbow goes, you should have plenty of energy to do the job.

For the record... I am not a fan of expandable broadheads... I know that many use them successfully... but there have also been countless documented failures... I try to minimize the potential problems with my equipment.

The Rage opens on contact and makes a fantastic entry hole... I've used them on a few deer and 2 bears and never had a problem.

A broadside shot the arrow should pass thru no problem. I use expanding mechanical heads and have never had issues. I have had blades break off when hitting the spine.

As stated before the rage head deploys on contact, making a large entry and exit hole. You'll have no problems getting a pass through as long as you stay off the shoulder.
