Hi,

Are you allowed to pack frozen game meat in your luggage if you're flying domestically within Canada? Are there regulations on species or amounts that can be brought by air from one province to the another for personal consumption? I want to bring some home for the family for Xmas.

You can bring what you want back in meat. I pack a rubbermaid container with my frozen cuts of meat and make sure it is 50 pounds or lighter to avoid excessive costs by Air Canada

With regards to freezing meat, I've read that you can avoid freezer burn for long term storage by filling the zip-loc bag with water so it freezes around the meat. Is this true?

How about vacuum sealing the meat. I stored bear meat for 1 year, pate, sausages, steak, roast,... everything was perfect, no freeze burns.

Depends on the plane and what part of the cargo hold your luggage is in, but in general cargo holds are pretty chilly, so if you pack it frozen you should not have a problem, I have not personally done it, but have friends who have and they had no problem.

I think it is ok but I wouldn't recommend it . My stepmom was bringing back a few gallons of maple syrup and a few frozen rabbits and moose meat from Quebec to BC , Her luggage went missing and all we could figure was one of the drug dogs got the munchies and dragged her luggage off into some dark corner and had lunch . It was never seen again lol if you do transport meat. make sure the tags and transport authorisations are filled out and included in the package with the meat. Follow all the regulations in any area the meat may touch down on the way home .

I've flown with large amounts of feozen fish dillets before, no problem. total of 8 hours out of the freezer and it was like it never left. I wrapped it in clothes to help with keeping it frozen. Should apply to meat too.
I have not heard of any restrictions, I do not believe Chronic Wasting Disease restrictions would apply but I haven't checked specifically for it.

I've flown meat in my luggage several times and raw hides and skulls for taxidermy. I flew from Yellowknife to Regina then drove an hour and a half and the hide and horns were still perfectly frozen. You're rolling the dice that it won't get lost but so far so good.
