My first AR. DD MK18!

Today I just purchased my first AR. I got a Daniel Defense MK18. I think the thing is gorgeous (all black)! As my first brand new gun I'm pretty stoked and I can't wait to shoot it.
I outfitted it with some Troy battle sights that I want to learn on then I will eventually upgrade to a good optic. Which one I have no clue yet. Any advice would help.

good on ya! you made the right choice and got an amazing AR! just gonna say it will look great with a aimpoint M4s, a tango down stubby grip and KAC rail covers. frog lube the sucker and get to the range! *thumbs up*
 
As it being my first AR I asked the fellow behind the counter to show me how to break it down. As we did he frog lubed it up real good. Seemed ready to go. I am gonna get some ammo tomorrow and test it out then clean the hell out of it as soon as I get it home!
 
Great choice for a first ar. I would still strip it down and clean before shooting myself.my dd had lots of brown packing grease all over. For that short barrel an eotech or aimpoint would do nicely.

Got the same rifle as my first AR a few days ago as well... Still waiting for the transfer to go through though...

Well as I know barely anything regarding AR's I'll probably take 'er home and give it a good once over and clean the snot out of it.
Thankfully in Alberta transfers only take a day so I should be able to take it home tonight and make my MK 18 spotless!

Make sure you at least clean the barrel before you take it out and shoot it. I would clean and relube it just to make sure its good to go, but if you feel he oiled it up good then just clean the barrel to make sure the grease is out of it and have at it! Congrats, nice rifle

Unless he bought a Norc, there is no "grease" in the barrel. I have yet to see a decent USA made AR have anything like grease in the barrel out of the box.

Facking awesome purchase dude!
Eotech xps2-2 with a g33 magnifier would be perfect on that rifle, that's what I have in stock in thecloset waiting for my DD
 
That was also my first AR purchase expect it had the earth colored rail. I love the thing. Its great fun. I also done the same as you and went with the iron sights first for a while and going to pick up an Eotech later with the magnifier.
 
Congrats! If more new shooters shared your wisdom, there'd be a lot fewer disappointed and frustrated novices in our community. Buy cheap, buy twice. You chose wisely, good for you.
 
I am going to clean it up a bit for sure before i shoot it now thanks to you guys and your great advice. I just got a tub of liquid frog lube and some paste too. Then off to the range i go. Thanks for all the encouraging words!

I didnt so much mean grease, but in every rifle there is always that coating of something in the barrels. Not sure what it is, but either way even if it has nothing I would still clean and lube it.
