Bad review for local store

I'm not sure this is the right forum to post in, but since it's about a reloading component, it's a start.

DO NOT shop at Chesher's Outdoor in Belleville, ON. I went in looking for IMR 4895. They didn't have it, so I asked if they could order it. They said sure.

I went in a week later to see if it was in. It was not. They had not even ordered it. The guy apologized and said he'd take care of it.

A week after that (today) they do not have it. Same excuse. "They didn't ship it. I dunno what's going on there."

I'm convinced they just didn't order it. It's a pretty redneck shop, but that's no excuse for bad service. Perhaps they saw my shoulder-length hair and decided I wasn't worth serving, who knows? I still don't have any powder.

I like to buy local if possible. IMR 4895 is a common powder. There's no reason why it can't be had, even by special order, within a week.

That's normal for them the store is beond a joke.
Kellys has been gone for almost 2 years.
Osts does not sell powder.
Try canadian tire. Ask at the gun counter for john or jason F.
But as noted. Powder is in short supply at this time, and no one will order just a pound due to hazmat charges. So would have to come in on a bulk order.

I have been to Canadian Tire, but they don't have it in stock. I doubt they'll order it either.

If you want to buy local and come across 4064, 3031 or BLC-2- all work well in 303 Br. I prefer 4064 in all the mid bore military catridges. From 6x55 to 8x57.

There may also be another option for you. I know you have Bancroft ties. There is a new small gun shop on Lower Turiff Rd. Was in there the other day and he had a small stock of powder available. Didn't pay much attention to what he had in stock but prices seemed fair

I have dealt with them before and I have been happy. pretty small issue to bad mouth a small town shop on a public forum. But apparently you are " ..convinced they just didn't order it... they saw my shoulder-length hair.." so there goes any chance of reasoning with you.

I think a lot of this "short supply" is just BS.

I called Epps looking for some IMR 4831 - they had it.
I went to Lake Huron Rod & Gun - they had 2 lbs of 4831 plus a shelf full of various other powders.
I usually buy from George at GAD archery in Owen Sound - he had powder but not what I wanted.
Hummason has powder....all you need to do is phone around.

Does everyone have every kind - no. Are some powders are hard to find - yes.

But so far I have not had any trouble buying 1-2 lbs of various powders when I needed some.

if your ever towards hamilton way call hummasons... 8pounds is around the 170 mark.. just got a keg of varget about a month ago from there... unfortanitly they do no ship but if your in the area its worth a shot..

Powder is hard to find. Every local gun shop around HRM doesn't have what I was looking for. Thank God I went to the gun show, I could buy some powder. Other than that, Cabelas has a lot of things. That's where I get most of my reloading components and gear.

Everybody has powder of some sort or other. It's just a matter of you may not be able to find exactly what you want locally. As long as you're willing to be flexible you can get by.

I honestly have not had much of a problem with powder purchases to keep everything in the cabinet beeing fed,but as pointed out one needs to be flexible at times on the choice being made.I'm also fortunate enough to live in an area that has several gunshops in the general area so more places to tap into when buying, that definitely helps.

Perhaps there is another reason for the delay. Most if not all distributors have a minimum order, your powder would not meet the minimum. Being a small "redneck" shop it may take a while before they can accumulate enough items to justify placing an order with that distributor. I think you are a little out of line trashing them on a public forum over one little item, especially when they are not even made aware of this to enable them to defend themselves.

Well - I'm sure you can get get 4895 at Accuracy Plus in Peterborough, if you want to pay ~ 40$ per pound. If you're going to get your shorts in a knot over a pound of powder, be prepared to endure some major frustration in your further pursuit of the shooting sports.
