Just got my P226!!! and got some questions as well...

So I just bought a Sig P226 from Al Flaherty's...

I see that there is a "DE" mark on the fram as well a on the lower receiver...what does that mean?
Also, My serial codes starts with U 862 ###, can some one please tell me the approximate date of production...or what does the serial code mean? (if it means anything at all...?)
And after the number there is an "emblem" looking pattern....its tiny and I doubt i can show it in the picture...but it almost looks like a darth vader shaped thing with a tiny "N" written below it...can anyone please provide some info as to what that means....?

Your gun is a German made Sig. Built last year or 2011 (why most of people cover the serial number or keeps it as secret...). The darth vader....lol is just a proof mark.
Im sure you got one of the last shipment triple serial Sigs......oh the serial code is just production serial number.

What does the DE lettering stand for?

IMHO, you made an excellent purchase.

Like Sigboy, I suspect you managed to get one of the last few German made production P226's that vendors were selling on here several months ago.

You are somewhat correct as well.
For a number of years production P226 & P220's have been made in Germany and Sigs US plant. Almost all US gun retailers stocked/sell US made 226/220. Most Canadian retailers also stock/sell the US made Sigs.
However, Canadian importers have had access to German made Sigs for many years, so we had the option to buy a US Sig, or pay a premium and import a German Sig. Or attempt to find a like new W German Sig P226, which are very desireable. Most W German Sigs were issued, most abused, then stripped, most were rebuilt and then sold as Factory Refurbs.

You have a brand new all German made Sig.
It was hand assembled using all Sig parts, each main part (frame, slide and barrel) are selected and then stamped with the serial number so the parts are "mated". The guns are hand assembled by German Gunsmiths, inspected by inhouse and third party QA, then each gun is test fired with multiple rounds. You should find a test target in the box, signed by the fellow that test fired the group.

US guns are assembled by factory workers, only the slide and frame are stamped with the serial number. In house QA only (questionable for the last few years), then a random gun is selected for a test fire. Not all US guns are test fired at the factory.

The last group of German guns were sold for the same, and in some cases for less than a US gun. Which is/was a smoking deal. A few years back if you wanted to import a German Sig you were looking at roughly $1600.00 + to get one here.

Those last German made lots of P226 and P220 were the last German made production Sigs. From what I gather, Sig Germany will still produce P226 and P220 for EU MIL/LEO. Plus they will still produce the high end P226 and P220; X Five, X Six, and other custom guns. All production P226 and P220's will now be made only in the US.

I'd suggest you consider hanging on to that Sig.

I disagree with all of that, all hogwash. You bought an awful pistol and you should sell it to me to redeem yourself. :) That's a pretty solid purchase :). Both my Hk pistols have the german proof marks as well, usually a stag horn, with DE written beside it, the vader looking thing looks like an eagle on closer inspection and has a N below it. Congrats and enjoy.

Don't they have date codes on them? For example on my usp it's marked BB meaning 2011 year of manufacture, and my P30L says BC indicating a 2012 year of manufacture.

Also could a mod delete my second post? not sure how that even happened.

I don't believe the German SIG's are marked as such. All it has is the DE, U824 ###, and a German proof mark.
I purchased mine used as a Swiss police trade in. Then I did a little Google research and verified the manufacturer's date using the S/N.
 
If you need the date that bad look at the paper target that’s under the foam with your printed instructions.
