sorry. I will try to clarify
Sorry again....something hicupped and I corrected
You get to purchase one deer seal(we will get to the exception in a minute). you can use it for bow, rifle, or controlled hunt. One tag(seal)
Now you can apply to have this tag validated for doe in rifle areas. You can also apply to use this tag in controlled hunts.
So if a person does all his applying to the draws and is succesfull at all of them a hunter may take ONE deer (doe or buck) during the bow season OR the rifle season OR the controlled hunt.
Additional tags. Some WMU issue extra seals if the deer population is unusually high in that area. Restrictions may be placed on these seals.
For instance WMU 88(IIRC) is a bow only WMU. You can buy a license. This is good for bucks. You can apply for the doe draw and get the license endorsed for doe. So now you have a buck/doe bow license good for ONE deer. In the past you also had the option of buying 5 additional BOW ONLY seals good for WMU88 ONLY.
You also have the option to apply for a controlled hunt with the originally bought license
So this is where things get interesting. The first tag is now good for Bow (all WMU for buck/WMU88 for buck/doe,) or for Rifle (all WMU where rifle is allowed, buck) or controlled hunt if you get chosen. The five extra tags you bought for WMU 88 are only good for WMU 88.
The other option
With the first tag you apply for a rifle doe tag and for a controlled hunt. You still buy 5 more BOW ONLY dags for WMU88
Assuming you are successfull at getting drawn for everything
Your first tagis now good for buck/doe in rifle area OR controlled hunt OR bow hunting Buck only. You can use your 5 additional tags for BOW ONLY in WMU88.
.
last option...you buy a tag apply for nothing.
This tag will be good for a buck during bow season OR a buck during rifle season, nothing else
It does get very interesting if you live in an area that has all three situations. Once you get your seal it will tell you what it is good for.
Complicated huh!
The last time this came up you posted and said:
In rifle areas tag = buck
Shotgun/black powder areas tag = bow tag for buck.
Must apply for the controlled hunt after or before buying tag to be able to shot buck or doe for shotgun/black powder.
Now I'm not sure what you mean, or I do understand it and I don't realize because I'm just confused. I haven't even bought my deer license (so I've never taken part in a draw either) as I have not heard 100% if the guys I got invited by are still going. I honestly have no clue what the process is now as I've heard different things from different people. I didn't think there would be that much ambiguity about the process.
I'm looking at the section for additional tags, it specifically states additional 'deer seal', not 'deer seals' but the next session says additional 'seals' come up for availability in October for specific WMU's, I guess I missed that part the first time I went through everything.
I was hoping once I get final word on the invite I could just go down to Service Ontario next week, buy my $46.17 deer license/tag and go hunting.
