Looks like some one used a leather belt to make a sling. How are you supposed to do a bayonet charge with your pants around your ankles?

Don't know, but if he was ever really a soldier he probably used his bayonet sometimes to spread butter.

Looks like either an SVT or PPSh sling, wartime. The Russians were using anything they could find in WW2.

Some big, burly dude charging you, screaming, with a bayonet fixed to a great big rifle...

Or exactly the same thing... But pantsless. Just all out there, in the open, heading STRAIGHT. FOR. YOU.

Doesn't look much different than the sling that came with my K 31. Believe it or not, they used to use leather for slings at one time.

Back when most armies, incl ours, issued suspenders to keep your pants up. I well remember being issued battledress with the big suspenders marked "police" on the adjustment buckles.

I would guess it is a Finnish sling. They used everything.
