source for 38 S&W ammo?

Rusty Wood Trading http://www.rustywood.ca/ has the brass in stock. He's also got some .362 bullets in stock although they are a bit pricey at $30/100.

The trick would be to lap out a .358 180gn mold to drop bullets at .360. Then you can cast your own for dirt cheap.

gun shows for ammo and brass - i got 250 pieces of brass at a guns show for 20 bucks last year. I have a friend who casts the bullets for me. fun little caliber

But .38Super bullets at the proper size of .355 to .356 are a lot smaller than we need for .38S&W which is .359 to .360. I'd expect a drop in accuracy from not getting a good obtuuration in the bore from the smaller size.

It does seem odd that there isn't a lot of use of this round. I suspect that it fell out of favour early on due to what appears to be a lackluster power for self defense use. The round being replaced by the hotter and faster .38Spl. Then the British resurrected it in the .38-200 which uses a heavy bullet that loafs along to force it's way through on shear momentum instead of a lighter high speed bullet.

"...would be easier to get..." Little or no demand. Epp's isn't listing it and that's unusual.
"...been using these .38 Super..." Wrong diameter.
"...British resurrected it..." They never quit using it. The .38-200 was an inexpensive (read cheap governments) way to not replace the revolvers.

You can get away with loading 148 HBWC for .38spl in the .38S&W....the hollow base seals the bore well even thought they are slightly undersized.

That was my plan, as well. How's the accuracy?

Any experience with loading 45ACP lead in 445 Webley?

M

No webley experience but my top break enfield is a crazy accurate with the RN or SWC.. All in the black in double action med rate of fire at 25 meters on a 25m slow fire target.. Can't complain about that I dont think.. With real 38 though it does group a little tighter but not enough for me to care
