Reminton 700 vs Browning X-Bolt? Help me decide!

my dad bought a 770, total POS.. however, their customer service was actually very helpful, they replaced several parts - no questions asked.
To the OP, If you are leaving it stock, stick with the browning. 700 may offer you a little more versatility in case you are ever interested in target shooting. Plenty of stocks and aftermarket parts available. The browning is nice though, very smooth.
The 700 is the best platform of the two. [Do not compare the 710 or 770 to the 700]
Maybe I am just lucky, but I keep buying Remington 700 rifles, and I stay very
satisfied.
The blued "SPS" does not appeal to me, but a CDL or BDL...These are great.

I'm in the same boat in that i narrowed my search to those 2 as well and have decided I want the browning xbolt. I've been borrowing a 700 .308 for a few years from a buddy and harvested a few deer with it. Even got a nice 6-point this morning with the 700, but still leaning towards the browning after handling a few of them. Planning on the .270 win as it should handle everything I need it to very nicely. Either way they are quality rifles and just depends what fits better. Happy shopping.
I'm in the same boat as you. All of my guns are Remingtons 760s & 700s except a couple Mausers. I like 700s!
Saying that ...... I never was an A-Bolt fan so really didn't go out of my way to check out the X-Bolt. The X-Bolt was a surprise when I finally handled one a couple weeks ago for the first time. Seemed like a well built rifle with nice features. The mag was a big improvement over the former mag.

The XBolt is head and shoulders above the 700 in every way IMHO.
I'm at the cottage hunting deer right now and I wouldn't trade mine for anything!
The short bolt throw is amazing for fast reloads and leaves tons of room for scope clearance. The action is smooth as can be and it ejects shells without effort. Accuracy has been stellar as well. Sub MOA with everything I have tried(not much admittedly).
Why buy just another Remington 700?

I'll vote 700.... mine have all been excellent rifles and have had no issues whatsoever.... The X-bolt is a very well made rifle and woudl be a good choice as well but I just can't get over how friggin ugly they are.... Every time someone pulls the trigger on one I expect a laser beam to shoot out or something..... JMOP

I love the look in the synthetic anyways. Wood is kinda different...

The X-Bolt Hunter/Medallion comes in wood too, and looks quite nice...
It's the shape that kills me... Wierd curves etc... Again, to each their own... I just don't see the need to make a gun that ummm "different"... I have no doubt they are great rifles and shoot well... (Have shot them)... But I guess they just aren't my style if that makes sense...

One thing about the browning I insist on is the detach mag... That's the way to go imop...

Cheers, I appreciate the feedback. Do you have any thoughts on .308 or 30-06 as this will be my ONE gun..
I'm glad a new rifle buyer idn't looking for a magnum... 2 great calibers there... I am an 06 fan... That is my personal preference but either are great cartridges...
I would hold both and work the actions... 308 is a short action and the 06 is long... Decide what you feel comfortable with and pick... Really, you can't go wrong with these two ... Both are awesome...

I have never handled an X-bolt so I can only tell you what I know
My 700 in 7mm is stock with a 3-9X leopiod scope, I am still blown away by its accuracy. I'm pretty sure this gun would would only punch one hole in the target at 100yrds if I had a scope with finer crosshairs. Great gun and solid. Was passed down.
Judging by my 1970's BL-22 and a new 20g BPS by browning, they make a hell of a good gun and the build quality in these two are amazing.
If I was buying a new rifle today, I personaly would be leaning towards an X-bolt if it shoots accurate. And I would consider a 270 if I had done it all over again.

Thanks Superbrad. Just curious as to why you are negative about magnum rounds? I have fired them.. more power and accuracy at longer distances, but overall I think would prefer the lower recoil and costs of the 308/30-06.
@cyclops Haha cheeky, although the X-Bolt I'm looking at is either the Hunter or Medallion, and the Remington 700 in the Custom Deluxe (CDL).
