What scope and bipods are people running? And what do you find you would change if anything?

I am looking at going with a S&B 12-50x56 and a long range accuracy bipod. No ranges near me allow 50bmg so it will be used in the bush only.

I'd personally go down to a 5-25 SB , they are what I run in FFP mil-mil , they have 27 mil (97moa) as opposed to the 70moa of the 12-50.. I traded off my 12-50 for another 5-25 as I wanted all my scopes to be FFP , but also I never ever found myself needing that much magnification . Optical clarity makes up HUGE for excessive magnification . If I still had a rifle capable and the range to do it , I'd have no hesitation on taking my 25x SBs out to 2000+

If I was to run a bench rest setup where I required thin x hairs and high mag then I'd for sure buy another 12-50 w/ p4f retical .. For a .50 I just don't think it would be a good match up

Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 Velocity reticle, mounted on a SPUHR Ideal Scope Mount. If I did it again the only thing I would change is the reticle to the MOAR reticle, which is exactly what I did on my .338LM, and I am totally sold on the benefits of the reticle, I can range hits and misses with supreme speed and accuracy with the MOAR reticle since the scope is also in MOA. Makes you wonder why it was ever done any differently in the past.

Been using the factory bipods until now, have two LRA bipods on order, and will do a review when they come out. I use an Atlas V8 on my .338LM, and I love it, but it is a bit light for the .50 calibre firearms.

I am running an 8x32 NF on 1 of my 50s and a 5.5x22 on another. Both work real well. I purchased a 12x50 SB but relegated that to 1 of my 338s due to the very little eye relief they have.
For bipods, VersaPod makes a bipod specifically for 50s that works well and stands up to the amount of movement a 50 has.

That is a really nice scope but eye relief and field of view is small. Given the shaking you will likely experience, lower mag and longer eye relief is likely more useful.

I can recommend the Sightron SIII family. I use the 6-24X50 on my LR plinkers and this would be a wonderful scope for a BMG. Lots of elevation to get out beyond a mile.

For bipod, I can also recommend my MPOD. We have shooter using it under their BMG's and 338's with positive results. Far more stable then any folding leg bipod and no problem supporting heavy rifles.

where are you getting the LRA bipods from if you dont mind me asking?

What do you think of that mount?.....Good and solid?

I've been running NXS 5.5-22 (recently switched to ATACR) on a 50 minute base. This set-up gets me to 2600 yds, but need to use some reticle to get there. To go further, I need some more slope in the base, and this may be an option versus having a custom base made. Would add height, mind you, but I think I could handle that......

PGWDTI Carries them

I would highly recommend them on a 50, I switched from a atlas on my 338 and they work very well for heavy rifles.

I also have a S&B PMII 12-50, it's a great scope but I wouldn't recomend it for a 50 for the same reasons as others mentioned. My first choice would be the PMII 5-25 and my second choice would be Nightforce ATACR.

Also highly recomend the SPUHR mount, I'm using one with a PMII 5-25 and will be switching over the ATACR to one also. IMO there the best mount on the market, not to say that theres not other good mounts thou.

Hope this helps.

As noted above, PGWDTI carries them, I'm getting mine off a fellow CGN'er with some spares.

Long story short, I love the mount. It it thoroughly thought through and was clearly designed by shooters for shooters.

Mounting is dead simple, and even has a built in 10 degree wedge and notch to get your scope dead level with the rifle, no bubble levels or error that causes cant of the scope.

Solidly built, but with reasonably light weight, and designed to accept picatinny rails on three sides if your needs called for them. The built in bubble level is also inspired, as there is no need to move your head to level the gun or to recheck before you take the shot, simply open your left eye and it is right there.

Cost is the only downside, with the mounts running around $450 or so IIRC, but the second you get your hands on one, you will see the reason for the cost, and know your money was spent wisely.

I always chuckle when I see guys with $4,000 guns with $3,000 scopes that are held on with $20.00 mounts that are likely to fail or shift.

Spend smart, spend once, and you will be set for life with quality kit. I have 4 of the mounts now, two on .50's and two on .338LM's and I will be a customer of theirs in the future as well.

I also agree with the above about scope magnification.

My personal feeling is if you are in the 5-25x range you are in the butter zone for the realistic shooting styles and capabilities of the .50BMG cartridge. Once you get over 30x you start entering into problems with FOV and mirage, neither of which any of the shooters of big bore that do everything but benchrest want to deal with.

You might want to check out NEAR Alpha Mounts they are Canadian! There stuff is top notch very well made stuff I am very happy with my mount. I think you will save around $100

I considered Near when I bought my TRG and I ended up going with the sako optilock instead because I wanted to keep all the parts on the gun sako, but now I may switch to the SPUHR mount on that as well.

It has a Hensold/Zeiss 6-24x56 on it which I may swap on to the 50 for now to see how I like it, If it works well I may just buy another to keep both rifles the same when doing adjustments so it will be easier to switch from gun to gun. I'm sure some of you guys with more experience can chime in if you think that is a waste of time..........I like the S&B but dont reallt have the funds to do it right now.
