.22-250 Remington

.2 grain makes the difference between blown primers and a load that is safe to shoot in my guns and as we all know each gun is different and will accept different loads just because it is safe in your buddies gun it might not be safe in yours

Anyone using varget or h4895??

I have used lots of IMR4895 and H4895 in the 22-250 Rem - I loaded 34.5 grs with a CCI 200 or CCI BR2 primer behind a Horn 53 gr HP for years before I started using H380 ! Never tried Varget yet in one - i am building a 22-250 right now and i will try Vargt in it as i have heard lots of Guys happy with it ! RJ

Well picked up my savage model 14 today. Its topped with a viper 4-16x44. Loaded up some with 33.5-36gr of varget and 53gr vmax loaded in hornady brass. Seems the sweet spot is around 35-36gr from my reading. Will be testing saturday. I use the 53gr vmax a lot in my 223(3020fps) with great results so the 250 should fling em a little quicker and pack a bigger punch.

I also found H380 the best in the 22-250 when i had one. Burned out several barrels on a 788 in the 70's with that powder. Need to get another someday and play with the new powders that weren't around back then.

I've owned 2 , 22-250's, one a Stevens 200
Which in my mind was the most accurate budget rifle
I've ever owned , sub MOA ,
Also a ruger m77 mk2 target with a 1:14 barrel

The Stevens liked a load of BL-C2 and a 50gr vmax
At 37gr with a Winchester magnum primer
I hadn't chrony'd it, however at 150 yards , easily
MOA AND LESS

The ruger hated bullets heavier than 55 grains
40,50,55 gr shot fine
The 64 gr power points I had from Winchester bulk bullets
We're " ok" for hunting I suppose
With the lighter slugs. I liked , a few diff powders
All gave gd results, here's a list of some ive tried
The H322 loads are from a hodgdon #24 manual
Which is an older book, 322 is a great benchrest
Powder fr yrs past it worked best with 50 gr bullets
The IMR4895 was awesome
You'll have to play with the loads and Taylor it to your rifle
Not every rifle likes the same powder or bullets as another
Sometimes u can luck out, but if you need any help
I have several load manuals and would be happy to share

All great info! Keep it coming. I have 100 55gr Vmaxs to use up and lots of powder. Got H380, Varget, IMR 4895, and Win Supreme 780. Should have fun experimenting... Just wish my range was closer and toll free...

Rem 700 Varmint.
34.5 gr Varget and 50 grain Nosler BT give me the best results out of this rifle so far. If I load hotter I loose accuracy.
I plan on trying some Hornady bullets this winter with a little more weight to see what results I can get out of it. Would like a little more speed with the current accuracy if possible.

Well went out today I was home bored lol. 36gr of varget, nosher 55gr varmageddon tipped, winchester brass, cci primers, oal 2.100" measured at the ogive. Shot 5 shots 4 went into .192" and pulled the last one to make the total for all 5 .782". I knew as soon as I pulled the trigger i messed it all up. Speed was 3591fps as well.

Accuracy is slightly better with my 22-250. Speed is really different. I'm getting easily 400 fps faster without pushing the 22-250 to max. I'm maxed out with the 223 and 60 gr bergers with varget at 3178fps(the case is full of varget) and with that same bullet I was getting just over 3500.

With the 55gr noslers I'm loading in the 22-250 a 150 yards zero it drops 3.3" at 250 yards and in the 223 it drops about 4.5-5" at that same 250 yards with a 150 yard zero.
Looking at isnipe the 22-250 with 150 yard zero does t move up or down hardly at all from 0-180 yards. Even the. It's only around an inch

Great info, thanks!

Just curious. How long is your barrel? Do you think you could get more velocity from a longer barrel? I have shot some factory 30.06 rounds where I get muzzle flash on the odd cartridge of the same box. Would you say muzzle flash is an indicator of wasted combustion?

Loaded up some 60gr berger fb, 50gr speer tnt tonight as well. All with varget.

Quick question for you, my manual says that the 50 gr TNT may come apart in flight in some 22-250 loads and that if that is the case, then the 55 grain TNT is suitable for higher velocities. Have you experienced this? If so, do you find this to be true in any of your loads?
