356 winchester

I have a .356/.358 rechambered from a .35 Rem in an H&R Handi rifle... It is in a grey laminate thumbhole with ebony tips... It is a fine shooter and nice carry.

Been hunting big game with one since the mid eighties - perfect woods combo. I have used 220gr SpeerFNs or 250gr Speer Hot Cores with the nose clipped flat. Works with authority on bears IME. Not a long range laser but a mighty effective thumper out to about 200yds IMO. It's become a cartridge for hand loaders though as the factory has almost abandoned it. I also neck up 307Win brass if it turns up and have even used 308Win cases - WITH SPECIAL ATTENTION TO a PROPER HEADSPACING on the shoulder.

I had and loved my 94 in 356. You will do the same. I just didn't use it anymore, that why she's not still standing in the back row of the safe. I had to downsize a while back.

I think a Browning BLR in 358Win would be a better choice.

1. Rifle easier to find than a 356.
2. Pointy bullets an option and way more choices.
3. Removeable magazine
4. Higher velocity
5. Brass can be formed from 308

We own a Winchester 356 and 2 Browning BLR 358 ... we use the 358 a lot. Not to say anything is wrong with the .356 as it's a nice light little gun, it's just the .358 has an advantage. I'll probably be selling the .356 as we haven't used it in the past 7 years.

They were available without a cross bolt safety and in two stock configs reg and a Monte Carlo
Great cartridge flattens whitetail but ammo is expensive and hard to come by

This is soooo full of Fuddlyness.
Funny thing, I agree too.
Now where is that muddy wet beast.....?

are you 100% sure that they all had it? I think I saw one without the cross bolt. I remember wishing that mine did not have it.

The Marlin 336 ER introduced the "fugly button" on this rifle in 1985. Winchester (USRAC) put the crossbolt on their 94's a couple of years after. So yes, you lucky folks that have an earlier one should hang onto it.:)
