It does not affect anything, so just keep it... I am (I haven't even checked for it because I don't really care). Keep in mind there is a hole drilled opposite it for the gas to travel into the piston assembly...

Easy to say it doesn't affect anything as they are all new, give it a couple years and a few thousand rounds and who knows how it will be. Having a "crack" in the chrome is going to allow residue to erode that area and will it cause problems, well no one knows do they? Personally don't think they are a 1050.00 firearm if perfect, worth much less now considering this issue.

Years go AIA bought .308 mini-gun barrels and realized some of the chrome lined barrels had minute pitting which because of poor storage had started to rust, had to scrap them.

If anyone truly expected to get ANYTHING from China that is AAA quality, just take a good look at everything they make.

Everything made in China is sub par and I'm amazed that this is the worst thing discovered about the T97. I'm sure there's more to come....

Some of you are really funny.
What did you expect? It came from China.
Do you really think the quality control is going to be the same as an American, Israeli, Swiss, or German made firearm?
Is it going to cause the barrel to fail? Nope. There is a hole right above it going to the piston which would create a bigger weak spot.
Is it going to effect accuracy? Probably not and if it does why do you care? Most of you are going to run garbage Chinese surplus ammo through them anyway.

Here are your options:
1- whine and cry on here about how your cheap chinese built rifle didn't live up to your expectations of having the quality of a Tavor at 1/3 the cost.
2- try to get a refund then ask your wife or mom to up your allowance so you can buy something higher quality.
3- suck it up and just shoot the piss out of it.
4- never deal with NS again since they don't stand behind their product.
5- sell it on the EE and learn from the experience.

$1000 for a semi auto black rifle is cheap, if you don't agree you might want to find a new hobby. Even a $1000 AR is a cheap AR and nowhere near the quality of a $2000+ AR. You do get what you pay for (most of the time) when it comes to firearms. Part of the cost of the higher end rifles is the warranty and quality control they go through.

The issues people are having is why I've been waiting since 2010 on the list for one at Canada Ammo and never once considered jumping over and getting one from NS.

No, it is a $1000 rifle. Twice as expensive as a M305 and more than many entry level ARs.

It's not an M305, or an AR. It's a bullpup rifle with questionable quality. It is also a cheaper alternative to the other bullpups offered in Canada. Not everyone is having issues with it, and are quite enjoying it. Having said that, seeing North Sylvia's response to the issue is what stopped me dead in my tracks from buying one of theirs. I'll wait to see if Canam's is any better. If not, I will save my money. I want a bullpup, and this was and still is a viable option, just not from North Sylvia.

Based on the "China is junk" argument,I guess pretty well every TV, computer, cell phone, MP3 player, and piece of high tech test equipment (like digital oscilloscopes, signal generators, MRI machines, CT scanners, etc.) are just pieces of $hit waiting to fall apart. Get a clue.

What about the larger, deeper hole directly above the gouge? You know the one the gas goes through? Are you worried about that one affecting "performance accuracy reliability to some degree"?

Well put. I own a T97. I don't even know if it has this "gouge". I don't even care. It WILL NOT affect the accuracy or longevity of the barrel to a measurable amount.

Only hypocrites d buy a $1000 gun and demand the quality of a $ 3000 gun. And then b@&$:;!& about the so called gouge. One issue, and the hypos want to send the entire nation to chair.
My t97 is reliable and fun. It is supposed to shoot well, rather than going to some type of beauty contest. I really couldn't care less abt the tiny bit of bug down the gas hole.
And finally. The 5.8mm t88 is in the same $3000 ballpark and that d be a more suitable gun to be compared.

If you fix the gouge, you'll still have an enormous hole in it, the gas port. If having a gas port isn't a problem, then I don't understand how the gouge would be.

So let's say I scrached your car....of course it's still drivable, are u fine with that?

A $400 made-in-China TV has a MUCH different quality of build than a $2000 made-in-China TV. The $60 made-in-China tablet computers are a joke compared to the $300 made-in-China tablet computers. No one is saying that China can't make good stuff. The argument is that if you buy CHEAP Chinese stuff, expect CHEAP Chinese quality. Might you sometimes be pleasantly surprised when it's really good? Sure. Might you also get what you pay for? Yup.

Like everyone else, Chinese companies are out to make money. Better quality manufacturing processes and better QA processes cost money. You want that level of quality -- pay up.
