Hey guys,
Im about to start Dabbling with reloading for the 300 WSM.
Currently I use Corelokt 150gr factorys for all my Big Game (read Sambar) Deer hunting, from up close to out fairly far.

Ive found my Corelokt ammo is Expanding , Dumping a lot of Energy on Target but only producing 1 hole.... Is this a issue? well No, not really...

Although im shooting 150gr due to the Recoil of the 180s but now im Comfortable with 150s im going to look into the 165Gr projectile range.

Looking online I see the Hornady do a interlock, 165gr, BTSP an FTSP... What is your thoughts on either of those, which base is preffered for hunting?

Also I don't think il do a bunch of experimenting, unless a certain projectile doesn't shoot well at all So id like to pick out 2 or 3 Bullets in which I could chose from if the 1st failed, or on game performance was no good.

Not going to dabble with TSX etc, but may look into Accubonds.

thinking of a Cup an Core projectile but may look into the Bonded line up??

im shooting an Abolt with a 23inch barrel

Also which Hodgson Powders are suited for the WSM

cheers
WL

I shot a deer with a 165 Hornady Interbond with my 300wsm and it failed to expand. It was a good chest shot at 300 yards but the deer still managed to get 500 yards into the bush. No blood or hair for the first 200 yards. I found it the next morning, after the coyotes had chewed on it all night. I now just use cup and core bullets for deer. If I am to go with a bonded bullet again it will be an Accubond.

The 168gr TTSX's is what a friend reloads for his 300WSM. They also come in 165gr. The Nolser 165gr Accubond would be a great bullet as well.

For me, I prefer the 180gr AB's. I reload them in my 300WM,and 4 buddies use the factory WS ammo in 180's (either the Accubonds or XP3's) in their 300WM / WSM rifles.

Thanks for the replies,
not interested in ballistic tips at all, reason being is these animals are as big as an elk, an tough, maybe even tougher than an elk!

Not interested in the super hard TSX TTSX lineup, no doubt a good bullet but too expensive for me an I shoot quite a few rounds.

Interbonds? that is the bonded Interlock I believe? the interlocks are cheapish an I think will be a good start!

Yeah I do like Accubonds so I will have that's as a backup if the interlocks don't perform how I want.

The newer Ballistic Tips are not like the old ones. I believe they changed in the late '90's or something like that. The 168gr Ballistic Tip has a very thick jacket and I would not hesitate to use it on elk.

BTW, do a little research on the Interlocks - they changed in the past few years and I have read many complaints that the old ones were better. Mind you I have no experience with them as the only Interlocks I used were the old 225gr in .338" and the 100gr .257"

Also, if you are worried about how tough your quarry is, then why not just use Partitions? You could always "plink" with cheaper bullets.

My personal experience pushes me to tougher bullets for a magnum cartridge; Accubonds, Partitions, or TSX's.

I made many accurate loads with H4350 in my WSM and a couple of others'.

WL, I use 150 gn TTSX in mine but I really wanted to use 165s like you, just couldn't find a combo that gave acceptable accuracy. Tried many of the better bullets in 165 and several powders but my rifle just wouldn't co-operate. I'm satisfied with the 150 TTSX knowing if I had to whack a grizzly while sheep hunting I have a suitable bullet. My son took a couple animals with it and I was surprized at the size of the wound channels, these bullets really do a fair bit of damage. Although the 150 is a comprimise it seems to do a good job and it is the load I have settled on for my WSM, just my experience.

I use a 165 grain hornady sst in my 300 wsm with win 760 and a cci 250 primer. I use this out of my hs precision with a 22 inch barrel and they average about 3150 fps. Ive used them on moose whitetails, mule deer, black bears and mountain goats from 40 yards to 611 yards and Ive been very happy with their performance.

Alright guys cheers for some info there!

I shot this guy last week at 40-50m with a 150gr factory Core lokt loading. A shoulder shot an the shot did not exit.

So with these Corelokt 150gr, im yet to have a projectile exit the big beasts, although everyone of them had died.

Wasn't too worried about the toughness of the animal but more so the toughness of the bullet, without using a mono TTSX etc.. actually im not worried about the toughness of the bullet, I just don't want a light frangible ballistic tip type projectile.

cheers

Hornady interbond or partition, both in 180g are my go to moose rounds for my 300wsm.
Everything else eats 165g hotcores from my .308.
