Shorten PAL Approval Times

I thought in Ontario the CFO was the OPP. Regardless, what Smcx said is that after his application was finished by the RCMP (ie. interviews completed) they sent it for "final approval" to the Ontario CFO and s/he has apparently been waiting for weeks. In my case that step seems to have been skipped. As soon as my interviews were complete, the same day the application status changed to issued and the license arrived in the mail a few days later.

Clearly either my situation is unusual or Smcx' situation is unusual....they can't both be the norm in the same province.

The CFO is technically an OPP officer (wyatt... *coughcough#######cough) but they operate separately from the OPP.. hence why his conduct has not been punished for being in violation of his oath as an OPP officer (as well as those above him (MOPS and DMOPS) being in essence complicit including the MOPS flat out saying handguns need to be banned)
 
Many times the 'wait' and 'mine was issued instantly' comes down to your name and birthday. If they punch in your name say 'Gretzky' and no one with that name has ever committed a serious crime. Issues can appear quickly. Now say your name is 'Graham James' even though you're not the same guy, live in the province or have the same birthday. You're probably going to have to wait a while.
 
I can't speak for other provinces but in BC you need to get your range membership before you can buy restricted. I just transferred a handgun into my name but couldn't get my STATT to bring it home until I can prove membership. I told the woman on the phone that I was under the impression that I could take it home but had to wait for range membership to apply for my ATT. She said no because without the ATT I'd be tempted to take the handgun out somewhere and shoot it or just carry it around. Go figure. So while your waiting for your RPAL to come get your range membership.

It's nice that she felt she could tell you no because you might be tempted. What's to stop you from doing all that now with a range membership?

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Kinda felt like I was being pushed to get mad. It was a pretty offensive comment. In other situations I would probably have spoken up and let it be known that I'm not an idiot.

Absolutely 1000000% wrong!! You can legally buy a restricted w/o any range membership at all and as soon as any CFO tries to say otherwise.. tell them flat out it is not LAW.. since that is 'policy' only.. and to do their job and process the registration as IS or issue a proper refusal per section 74 of the FA. They will stfu quick and process it since they have no legal leg to stand on for that BS.


The same applies to ATT's as well.. Membership is NOT required by law.


As for her insulting comments.. file a formal complaint ASAP.

I'm a labour activist and normally don't hesitate to take up a fight but to be honest I received my RPAL a week ago and I just want to get some metal into my safe before I start taking them on. I will probably let this one slide but rest assured I wont be silent forever.

Yeah that doesn't make a whole lot of sense because one of the valid reasons to have a RPAL is if you just want to collect guns - you don't legally have to be a member of a gun club because you don't legally have to ever shoot the guns. So I don't really see how they can deny you the ability to buy the gun considering you can just be buying it to display or collect it and that's entirely valid and legal.

Sorry but incorrect.. even as a NON-collector there is no legal requirement for membership at all period.

And as I posted above they CANNOT deny such.. w/o a legal and formal refusal which they will not do on these grounds since that would leave them w/o any legal footing at all. i.e.: guaranteed LOSS in court which they do not want.
 
Just wanted to let y’all know that on this day day (42 days after receipt) my license has been issued! It took exactly 42 days. My friend sent his application at the same time as me and his card was charged on the same day as well, however, his was issued on day 38. Hope this helps.

That's still slow.. but better than others have had at least.

No ####.. that is a massive understatement not to mention the rest of the f'ing BS up here.

but there are a few like myself whom are actively fighting such... sad so many are apathetic and refuse to get off their asses and help though :mad:

I called as soon as I saw my credit card was charged by CFC. Then after I called after the 28 days ''cool off'' period to see if my file was completed. It was transfered to QC CFO then I called in order to see if I could speed up my application, for work purposes and November 4th... well I'm done waiting... kind of, still gotta wait for it in the mail :p

Update: Received my card on November 12th so quick math : received in Miramichi on Sept 12th and received my card on november 12th. BANG ON 2 months !!
My friend sent his application mid-july (for rPAL too), decided to let it go with the flow, still no references calling (I'm one of his 2 references) and still no licence for the poor guy
