I honestly really like the looks of the LSS with the longer barrel. I was worried my 26" would look ridiculous, but I still think it looks great with longer tubes.
Got my adapter today. It works as promised, but I am pretty disappointed. I also have an MDT PRS adjustable buttstock, which add around an inch. With the adapter and the AR 15 PRS the LOP is over 16 ". I can't move my scope far enough back to get a sight picture. It works okay with a a carbine buttstock, but I can't get the butt pad off my collar bone in the prone without a vertical adjustment.
Well that sucks. That prs in your pic is sitting in my mailbox right now. I guess my 308 will be getting a tac 21 sooner than later. More shopping to do for the lss which is going to make my 223 the sickest coyote slayer I've ever shot.
Functionality is a prime feature of chassis systems like this one. I have assembled mine with an action sporting a 20" LTR barrel, as well as a 26" varmint weight one. Balance changes, but the assembly is quite functional with the longer barrel. Esthetics is a personal thing, in the eye of the beholder.
In fact, if the forend were longer, putting a bipod further out, I suspect that LSS sales would cut into TAC21 sales.

Looks like the front of the PRS has a big sharp edge. I tried that when I test fitted the PRS without the fixed stock adapter and found there was not enough clearance for my hand. Have you tried shooting it?
This is what I ended up with:
LOP is a hair under 14 " - perfect length for me. It's not ideal, but it works well. CTR with a 3/4 riser and the UBR butt plate from MDT.

That looks real good.
The issue with the edge on the PRS stock looks worse than it is. 100 rounds down range with it on Saturday and not an issue. I'm trying everything I can think of to make this stock work. It just fits me so well.
If I have to I will chamfer that leading edge to add more clearance and smooth it out.
My idea of esthetics is form and function. The longer barrel looks awkward. I haven't handled or shot one though so I can't say other than I'm not keen on the look of the longer barrel. I would like to see a version for 20-26" barrels with the longer forend and designed to take a PRS stock or A2 with proper LOP. I agree it would likely replace the Tac21 for sales. But I prefer a real target AR over the Tac21. I do however like the way the LSS is going. I think with 16"-20" and A frame carbine stock that it would be a cool modernized light tactical stock.
Like others on here I'd like to see a folder option built in. I'm liking what I'm seeing. I could see a LSS or heavier version for one of my rifles in the future. I'll definately be keeping an eye on this one. Plus it's cool the mods and configurations the early adopters are coming up with.
I would also suggest for a future design to incorporate quick release sockets at the back by the stock buffer tube. For a heavier tactical version this might give it nice lines going to the PRS stock while also being functional. Also quick release points on the handguard. Nice for those wanting to use a sling.

Its good so far. Keep in mind that I just got the R-5 and I'm still going through what I have on hand looking for what it likes to shoot. Still have 55 grain v-max and 75 a-max to try along with cfe-223 and h335 powders.
As you can see it shows promise.

I would upgrade if there was a gen II that would accept a fixed stock and keep the LOP down to 13 or so min. A modular front end would be cool too. A bolt on extension to extend bipod length for a longer barrel would be perfect.
Or just have to build another rifle...
I think it would be very easy to install a section cut from tubing inside the barrel channel, extending foreward. Screws could engage this piece from inside running into the existing drilled and tapped holes in the chassis. A stud for the bipod could be installed in this extension.
Experimented with making a bipod extension. Took a piece of nominal 1"steel pipe, turned it to 1.000" diameter, cut it off at 6". Milled it lengthwise to yield a piece .400 high. Drilled two holes to match two of the threaded holes in the forend, a third hole to accept the swivel stud. Installed it in the barrel channel. The piece clears the LTR barrel I'm using. Moves the bipod 3 1/2" further out. Does seem to be more stable.
A piece of aluminum channel could be attached to the bottom of the forend in the same manner. This would allow a larger diameter barrel to be used.

I must say that the workmanship on the chassis is very good, not a blemish on it. Really good service from the guys at MDT as well.
The 24" barrel doesn't look too bad just a little long, I think a 20" or less would look more balanced.
Another 2 to 2-1/2" on the fore end would probably balance out those 24-26" barrels nicely. Maybe a MDT LSS Mk II for that option in the future (??).
