Hey guys,

Just when I think I am done buying rifles I find another one to buy. I wasn't going to buy an AR but now I am sometime in the future.

Anyway I have my eye on the Norinco CQ, quite a few guys that I have spoken to enjoy the Norinco and some hate it. I was also told that it will eat whatever ammo you feed it which is good, I hate jams.

Not sure if I should get the 10.5" or the 14.5" barrel? don't know much about the rifle itself and don't know of the advantages of the extra 4"

Maybe some recommended upgrades would be nice or a better model I should look for instead of the Norinco. What should I do any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Troy

I have the 14.5" barrel and like it just fine. More than a thousand rounds of various American eagle, Norinco, and the MFS steel case ammo and no malfunctions yet. I always clean my rifles though if that's important to you. She works good with all my mags too- P-mags gen 2 and 3, USGI, D&H, Tapco, LAR pistol mags. The barrel length is your personal preference, though I prefer a longer barrel for 223/5.56mm rifles for the better velocity, hence the 14.5" for me. For the money, there's really nothing to hate about it IMHO. Feed it bullets and it works.

Thanks ChrisAlston, that helps. I forgot to ask how picky it was with the magazines, I want to pick up a bunch whenever I see them on sale. I think I'd better hold a 14.5 and a 10.5 and see what I would prefer.

Longer dwell time for the gas to act on the action before the bullet leaves the bore and pressure drops. The 10.5 will suffer cycling issues with too light or hot ammo before a longer bbl'd rifle will. Its hypothetical without a specific rifle and ammo in question, as things can always be tuned. That's not to say Norinco did not find the right gas port size, buffer weight and spring to get the 10.5 working well with a broad mix of ammo, they may well have. Accuracy is not dependant on barrel length. Not until you're trying to shoot thousandths of an inch tighter groups than the guy beside you at long range. I.E. not applicable to an SBR.

How would it be more reliable? as in more accurate more often?
