Anybody ever measure the relaxed, walking stride length of a big buck track, plus have you measured the hoof length?

I've run across the tracks of a giant buck and I'm looking for feedback.

The tracks I saw are 4" long hoof, 54" from front to back, hoof prints in a relaxed walking stride.

FYI, these tracks floored me. I did a double take, when I saw them. I'm not sure I've ever seen a deer track this big.

Sometimes on soft groud the tracks will appear to be much larger than they actually are...is the 4" track including the two rear dewclaws? Also I've seen does leave tracks that I would have sworn where made by a large buck when running. Maybe post a pic of the tracks.

The tracks were on hard, dry, frozen dirt. Not splayed, melted out, soft mud or anything. And you know a buck track when you see it, in the light snow; toe marks lightly dragging, tracks look like they are 'stitched' together.

As far as a trail camera. Maybe. But I'd have to do some work on that. Only just run across these tracks the last 2 days.

...I'd guess these are probably as big as deer tracks get...

I was just hoping somebody on here has put a tape to a large set of tracks to compare these against.

Yes, in snow you can tell a buck by the drag marks....hopefully you will get a crack at that deer and post up the pics...good luck!

As someone who was there and saw them as well big azz buck tracks. But I've only been lookin at deer tracks for about 24 years so I may be wrong.

Two words... Trail camera

This time, I won't bump heads with ya over that comment :D :D
Trail cameras behind my place are blowing my mind

There's some awfully big mulies around my place but to be honest, I've never thought to measure tracks.
I'm tagged out but reguarly see a big HUGE 5x6 mulie.. I'll see if I can isolate his tracks over the weekend and get pics/scale
I can believe a buck that big would have some awfully big hoofs

First off I pretty well always carry a camer when out and about. And when I see an impressive track I usually put something for a size reference near it and take a pic. Like this:

My swiss army knife is 3.5 inches long. Now one has to realize that this track is not one track. It is the front track and then the rear track on top of it and slightly to the rear.

I can tell weather it is a mule deer, whitetail or elk by finding where they urinated and smelling it.......they all have their distinct odor. All or most hunters know that bucks and bulls urinate or their tarsal glands when in rut. When a animal is killed and approached that musky odor is part urine and other odors from the glands.
