Just picked up an old shotgun at a local shop. Wondering if anyone knows much about these? A genuine Made in Canada gun, had to have it just for that!!

My uncle and mom talk about how you used to be able to buy a gun in local hardware stores next to the law mowers. Now I know what they would have gotten.

Amazed it also takes 3" shells, must have bee. One of the first!

Might try it at the trap field next week. Doubt it will handle steel shot for ducks?

It will handle steel just fine if you ream the barrel to a mod and even at full the barrel might bulge a bit but it's mostly a cosmetic issue.

A Winchester/Cooey made for Simpsons Sears.Interesting about the Simpson Sears markings. This is the first time I have seen a Winchester/Cooey so marked.

The barrel serial number and the receiver serial number match so I know that this is not just a Simpson Sears replacement barrel or something like that

No, I was not doubting that it was made for Simpsons Sears. Its just the first one I have seen so marked.Neat piece of Canadiana.Don't do anything to the shotgun.Keep it as a piece of Canadian firearms history.

Will keep it in good shape and hand it off to my son one day

My first gun was a cooey 84 single... essentially the same as what you have there.... still take it out once in a while.... in fact, I shot a coyote with it off the back deck last year.... I personally wouldn't shoot steel out of it though.....
