I owned the first model Coonan and it was the finest semi auto pistol I have ever owned or shot. The trigger was exceptional and it never failed to cycle even at the fastest rate of fire one could imagine. I loaded 140 gn JHPs with 296 powder with a max load and the gun shot way better than me and the SDs over the chronograph were in the single digits. It did not spew brass badly and pretty much dumped them in about a 4 ft circle. I fired mine more than 10,000 rounds and it was as tight as the day I bought it. I used it indoor as well with 38s but had to buy a different recoil spring for target load 38s and it then shot them without a hitch.
The pistol I had was amazing and I really cannot say enough good about it, it NEVER, not once, failed to function as far as I can remember. This was a pistol that I would bet my life on and actually took it to Africa to have in the leopard blind as my "close up and personal" firearm of choice. I have large hands and it fit me like a glove and the bullets went where ever I pointed that pistol. If the current quality is on par with the one I owned, I would recommend it above any other handgun for power, reliability, accuracy and lifespan. The closed breech also added 150 fps over a revolver with a 1 1/2" longer barrel and the identical loads. Other than the depth of the grip, which wasn't an issue to me, there just wasn't a single flaw with this pistol. I carried it as a personal defence weapon in Jo'burg and it's flat profile and single stack mag made it ideal even just stuffed into the back of my shorts with a loose shirt over. I'll say it again this is a pistol that I would bet my life and my son's life on and did, without reservation or hesitation, I'm not sure one can say more about a pistol than that.
