Why does Westrifle require DOB and City of birth for standard purchases?

But you do need to read the prev posts in the thread before posting

Laugh2 I got it after the head banger, read the first page, didn't see second page, left the computer on that screen for over tem in, and by the time I posted, all was good in the hood :)

All that is required is for the vendor to SEE the pal, no need to call it in and verify it. Some of these places go way beyond what is required and these places should be shut down.

I personally can understand a company selling 200 dollar semi auto rifles with crates of ammo for 300 don't just accept a scan of a PAL that has no address or other form of verification on it... I'm all for ease of purchase but some things are just necessary guys

How exactly does the vendor get to "see" a PAL when people are ordering online?

Online orders and telephone orders where a PAL # is given via a website or verbally, vendors do have a special login to the CFO/RCMP website to check the validity of the PAL. I've seen this website at a local vendor (they let me peek at the screen), and it *REQUIRES* a DOB along with the PAL in order to verify. This is beyond the vendor's control, it's a requirement of the gov't website.

OP mentioned city of birth... really? That one concerns me because it is used by many institutions for verification of identity. I am very cautious about that one. Is this info needed for firearm purchases?

There was a time where all firearms purchases required this ... Now it's just restricted purchases but it may be required for a retailer to validate the PAL

Seriously people if you cant trust your firearm retailer with this stuff buy locally because online purchasing clearly is not for you

Im pretty sure a 5 min phone call to the RCMP to verify the PAL is valid can save you a ton of problems and every dealer that respects himself should do it IMO.

I have to agree with you on that one

Thanks, and I checked the PAL application form, there is a field for that info. I just figured address is and DOB is enough to verify the PAL. When I call the bank, they are usually happy with address and DOB as verification.
Will I avoid online firearm purchases? Probably not, I just like to be sure that the info is absolutely necessary before handing it out.

Things are getting out of control. Scammers are getting people's PAL then using stolen credit cards to drop ship at fake addresses. WTF?. I remember a time when dealers required you to send your original FAC to make a firearm purchase. Glad that ended. Seems ironic that the only safe way to purchase is in person with cash. Just like it once was.

I'm the OP.
I appreciate everyone's comments and respect everyone's opinion, however......................
This may just be a programming error on the website, something that Westrifle may not even be aware of.
I would like to suggest we wait for Westrifle to check it out and get back to us with an explanation.

My original post was not meant to crucify, or "shut them down" as some have said, it was just a concern.
I will shop at Westrifle once they fix that small detail on their website.

Let's have some patience and give a supporting retailer time to appreciate the problem, the concerns, and make it right.

Thanking all.............

You can put PAL 1111111.0001 if you are buying firearms or ammunition we will require your PAL number and DOB as required by LAW. We are checking your information with RCMP only when you buy firearms or ammunition and we don't tell them what you buy. By the way they already have your information like DOB and PAL

Sergey96.

My original post DID NOT mention a PAL number in any way, shape or form.
Your website DID NOT ask me for my PAL (please see original post)

My question was about DOB and place of birth when I purchase items NOT requiring that info.
Could you please try the website yourself and see what I'm talking about ?
Try to purchase a scope mount and check-out without entering the above information.
If you can do it, please let me know how it was done.

It was a simple question...................................should've been a fairly easy answer.
I guess not.

Cheers

How is it saving me problems? I show you my pal, you look at it then sell me the gun, pretty simple. Every check or verification of my pal gets logged into their computer and where as they don't know what I am buying they do know I am buying something.

Sergey96,

My guess is that it's just a web form, it was designed for primarily firearm purchase. I see 3 solution for this problem:
1. do more sophisticated design and mark every item in we store as required PAL or not. Then modify form so it will show those field in question only when is required
2. remove * so people would put info if they feel like it - require some knowledge of the HTML though.
3. leave everything as is so concerned customers not wishing to give away their info just put something like Kurya as a city of birth and DoB of Kalashnikov (please look it up in the Internet)

Anyway why it's so big deal ?

My question to the OP is;

Why didn't you inquire about this privately via pm or email?
Instead, now sergy96 feels he has to defend his business practices in an attempt to keep his good standing image intact, while wolves circle and dissect his every touch of the keyboard.

Well said.

Sometimes the only way you can get a vendor to deal with an issue is to call them out publicaly.
This seems like a very small non-issue. Far be it from me to suggest something unethical but if you're buying a flashlight and someone wants your DOB and city, lie about it?
