SKS vs VZ58 - my review

I would say the vz is a more durable rifle. The sks is definitely a nice starter rifle, but I am not too sure how well it would work after 10k rounds, how well would a vz work after 10k rounds? Give me a couple of years and I will let you know :).

Oh and to op can you tell me all the components on that Rolls royced vz?

Corwin arms did bring in the railed receiver cover to see what it would cost, but the one item he brought in cost him like $400 with import fees. I think Zahal sells a version of the handguard used by the special forces:

but it's not the same as the quick release version made by gunexpert.

The Zahal site is telling: there's 8 pages of VZ58 accessories vs 5 for the AK47 and 0 for the SKS. The Israelis respect the VZ58, and the Czechs who made it.

Compairing these rifles makes no sense; apples vs oranges.

I suspect it was a simple exercise for the OP to show off his VZ, which I have to say is very nice.

I've never been a fan of tacticooling either the SKS or the VZ/CZ. The stock barf wood CZ is a heck of a lot handier to shoot than the SKS. I shoot my CZ in stock form and enjoy it for what it is. Accuracy is fine with chec surplus. The balance is excellent, detachable mags and a safety I actually prefer over my AR rifles. But for optics etc... Just buy an AR.

As for shooting the SKS vs CZ.. The trigger on the CZ is a much nicer striker fired system. The safety is awesome, the balance is excellent, the receiver is milled and the barrels on the CZ858-2 non restricted aren't Crome lined. They are essentially CZ527 barrels. Excellent for accuracy out if this type of rifle. The VZ58 semi auto from Marstar and I believe the CZ858-4 (restricted) were chrome lined. The CZ is much nicer to shoot than the SKS.

Once you start changing these rifles around the cost goes up significantly and in many cases you're trying to make the rifle something it wasn't designed to be. If you want a 21st century firearm then buy one. If you want a 1945-1950s based firearm then SKS and CZ are good examples.

I own a non Refurb Russisn SKS and a stock CZ858. I greatly prefer my 858.

CSA now make a non restricted chrome lined VZ58, which is the version I have.

As for simply buying a modern rifle, well it's not as simple as that. Buying a rifle is about choosing the caliber first right? I'm not a fan of the .223 caliber poodle shooter round.

Cz858 is a piece of garbage i put 500 rds down mine and i enjoyed my norinco sks way more. Couldnt hit the broad side of a barn with the cz. Sks i was hitting the 300m gong all day long and no gremlin

Here's a pic of my VZ58:

can't beat the SKS for cost of purchase and cost to shoot. My CZ 858 (restricted) I find easier to handle / shoot, i find the safety and detachable mags make it a more enjoyable firearm to own and use. if someone is at all interested in this era, or style of Firearm, for the cost of either of them, i think people should buy both :)
