As the title says, I'm wondering if removing steel on Norinco parts is a good idea. More specifically on the slide release and detention where they meet. Are these parts surface hardened only, or does the hardening go right through?

Also, believe it or not, The Norinco parts that I have ordered look as good, or better finished than their American counerparts.

Lol, nope, I have a 1911 sport that has always had a slide detention that's always been too long to easily reassemble the gun. I have a new slide release on the way that I will use, but no one has the slide release detents in stock.
My thoughts are that I could remove some metal from both the release, and the detent, but if these parts have shallow hardening, I'll break into soft metal, and they'll both start wearing.

I think the parts are generally forged, and not surface hardened. But I could be completely wrong. Try it and let us know. :)

On an older Norinco Sport that I have, I re-radiused and polished the original plunger, and dropped in a high-end aftermarket slide stop. No signs of undue wear on the plunger.

I think you are running into restrictions on exporting particular manufacturers' parts from Brownells. If I am not again misinformed, there is nothing aside from a frame that you cannot now order from them, IF the manufacturer permits it.

I get all my 1911 stuff from fusion firearms. Unless something has changed they ship everything except the frame to Canada

Hey guys sorry for the no show, I thought this was a dead duck.
Thanks for the info, um going to look into getting a few spares.

I tried placing an order with brownells, and one of the no go parts was the plunger....go figure:p
