I just got my first ever Swiss milsurp from Trade Ex yesterday(a K31)and holy crap, these rifles
are a piece of art! The fit, feel and workmanship in these beauties is well beyond what I expected.
I've seen and handled earlier models like 1889's & 1911's and passed them up due to their overly
long actions. Any K31's that showed up at my favorite gunstores usually got snapped up before
I could get to fondle them for any length of time. Add to that, the fact that I never got to shoot
one at the range.....Bummer.

Back in the 70's & 80's I was generally into Rem. 700's, Mauser 96 & 98's, Win. M70's and the like
as well as M1 carbines and my old favorite....the Lee Enfield series. I passed on neat rifles like
Mosins & Swiss units mainly because of ammo & reloading equipment availability in those days
in my area. Thankfully, this is no longer an issue.

Gettin' back to my latest purchase, the K31. It took only 30 minutes of handling, takedown &
inspection to show me that the Swiss really put serious thought into the design & constuction
of these rifles.(At least as far as right handed shooters are concerned.)

The metal on this gun is wonderfully crafted and in great shape with no nicks or rust anywhere,
the chamber and bore are great and the blueing is around 90 percent. The stock is showing
numerous little dings and such, but I'll soon be steaming those out. The trigger is perfect for
my tastes and will not be swapped out for a Huber unit like I do with Mosins & Enfields.
She breaks at 2.5 lbs. To me, this K31 holds almost perfect for offhand shooting and balances
right on. The sights are right for my eyes and about the only quibble I can find in this design
is the magazine follower prevents cycling the bolt back and forth on an empty mag.

No big deal, cause I understand why they built it that way....to let the operator know when
the magazine is empty in the heat of battle.

Anywho, here's some picks of my new uber plinker. Milsurp collectors must own one of these!:D:D:D

I know how you feel, I got a walnut stocked one with the bayonet through Weimajack. Took it out for the first time last Sunday and fired a 3.5" five shot group at two hundred yards with the open sights. It is one slick piece of machinery, that's for certain. The cleaning kit is a fantastically thought out piece of gear too, even a little mirror for bore inspections.
I have a diopter sight for it now, can't wait to get it out and see what it'll really do off a good rest! Be sure to check under the buttplate, the name of the last soldier to carry it might still be on the little tag inside as well.
Cheers

Yes, very nice indeed. A coworker just picked one up and shot it for the first time last weekend. Very impressive results too. Incredibley accurate rifle.
I'm plan on going with the K91 instead of a Mosen PU or SVT for a long range milsurp rifle.

Some of the Mosins are incredibly accurate as well, not quite as nice to shoot as the Swiss though IMO. I have one that does real well, you can take three or four pounds off that trigger pull with a bit of polishing and shimming the sear, pretty easy and doesn't permanently alter the gun in any way.

Sorry for the brief hijack! ;)

I shot my K31 for the first time yesterday. The action was as smooth and sweet as a Swiss watch. Go figure. Ammo is a bit of a thorn for this fine made rifle, but managed to shoot off a box with only minor windage adjustments to the front sight. I was shooting about 2 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards in less than ideal weather and lighting conditions.

I picked up a k31 last year from Trade Ex. Awesome rifles! Welcome to the club! I've already got a couple of friends who've picked one up also. I've come up with a great recipe for reloads using Prvi Partizan brass, Reloader 17 powder and 168 gr Hornady HPBT.

at the range my K31 always gets people looking and scratching their heads wondering "what the heck is that?" I always have lots of reloads on hand and routinely offer people a chance to shoot at least three rounds so they can cycle the action. People always love the feel of the rifle and are impressed by the smoothness of the action. I enjoy the chance to share such a unique rifle with people.
There's lots of possible powder choices, 308 bullets and privi brass from tradex. So far imr4320 has been a great performer for all the different bullet weights I've loaded. Watch your col carefully http://theswissriflesdotcommessageboard.yuku.com/topic/9041/75x55-Load-Tables#.UobwMicueSo

Yeah, my local CT put in an order for a bunch from North Sylva. It's a package deal that comes with 60 rounds. Can't wait.

Where is local out of curiosity? I'm hoping Winnipeg even though I know it's a long shot..... I'd sure like to get a second one of these guys with the lighter stock.

Beautiful Swiss craftmanship, but you've got to wonder how it would have done under actual Combat conditions. No one ever tested the design, so we don't know. Gotta admit it would make a better club than an SVT. :) One thing that doesn't seem to be accounted for is a provision for gas to escape in the event of a Head failure.

Trade Ex still has some with lighter wood and they carry new Privi brass in bags of 100. My new Lee collet dies and boolit sizer dies are in the mail from Higginson Powders. I knew I made the right choice in getting one of these fine rifles.

As for lack of breech venting in case of a case failure, I've no concern as I'm quite "conservative" in my loads and
never shoot surplus ammo in my rifles. I'll soon have a peek under the butt plate to check for the last owner.

Cheers:)

I ordered a few boxes of PRVI factory loads from Tradeex to test her out and make some fire formed brass. I was hoping they might get the dies back in stock soon but maybe I'll need to check out this Higginson place, none of my usual interweb haunts seem to have them around at the moment. As for surplus, I hear the Swiss GP11 is one heck of an accurate round. I'd like to try a small batch out myself, it's all non corrosive to boot.

and give weapons to young people have to come to the service is sometimes worse for the weapons that the conditions of real fighting

and then where does this way of always look critically

Just finished ordering some Privi brass from Trade Ex like 2 min. ago......couldn't help it!
Now the search for a diopter sight is on.:)

Tradeex has the diopters too....your credit card is just getting warmed up! $375 for the Swiss Products model in the sights and mounts section. Expensive given the cost of the gun, but high quality. I got a used one for slightly less. :)

Swiss have put their quality not only in rifle but in ammunition as well, so case head failure is highly unlikely. Take a look at fired GP11 brass and you'll find out why, too bad its berdan primed what a waste to dispose such quality brass.

I believe this after one and only firing of my K31. I'm thinking to grab ten boxes of PRVI ammo so I have some good quality brass for reloading.
