OK...I almost give up. After doing a lot of searching, the only 2 Scar's I can find are from a source in Leduc who doesn't return inquiries. After looking on the CFC site, it seems we are allowed to import non prohibited weapons into Canada...is this true ? Also...what is the rifle classed as ? Even that is hard to find an answer for. ( CFC site is undergoing maint ) I would get one in a heartbeat if they were non-restricted...AR's, VZ's & Cz's don't interest me....sold em all. Thanks for any info or tips.....

Buds, sorry to "rain on your parade" but the SCAR is prohibited in both the "light" (.223) and the "heavy" (.308). models.

Geez...you didn't just "rain"...lol...you just helped me lose my desire for living.... Any particular reason why ? ( it figures...the ONLY rifle that i would p**s away a few grand for, is prohibited...sigh ) Well, so much for that plan...any ideas on a "clone" type ? I have the ISSC 22 and like that a lot. It would have to be something if I have to live with the 5 round rule...and the ones I sold didn't make that cut...The Sig's look expensive for what you get....same with HK's. Thanks for the info, though. The only info I saw on here was a couple of years old and google never linked with the latest results. That was the same reason why FAL's are prohibited...too easy to make them full auto. Oh well....v'est la vie.

what makes you want the scar over the XCR or ACR? go google scar vs acr or scar vs xcr and you'll be surprised

I was one of "those guys" on the pre-order list for a year and paid in full. I'm getting a SIG 716, and saving about $1000. The "full auto" parts work in both models, that's why it "prohib".

Thanks all...the reason I don't buy the A ?...CR is it's not available in '62X51....and the Xcr isn't what I'm looking for....long stroke piston, like the AK...don't like that. I need to put together my own "FrankenGun" model...lol.

Have you considered the FAMAE SG542? It's a non-restricted semi-auto .308.

Of the XCR / ACR...one isn't available in '62x51 and one is a long stroke design. I need a personalized "FrankenGun"...lol. Thanks for the help and the current links. Not too many times I wish I lived in the good ol' US of A but today is one of those days...sigh.

To answer your question why: The SCAR 16s and 17s are prohibited due to being capable of firing in a fully automatic fashion....."capable" meaning easily converted to such a state in this case. Evidently, obtaining full auto function on these guns is as simple as dropping in a different trigger group....no gunsmithing required. Pretty absurd but that's the way she goes.

The FAL is a named prohib...which may or may not have to do with how easy it is to convert one to full auto. I suspect since it was the right hand of the free world for decades...the gun-grabbers deemed it too scary to be owned by the plebes. I base my assumption on the fact that the rest of the named prohib and restricted firearms have no basis in any kind of logic...so why should the FAL?

Yeah...every Army Cadet among us knew how to make the C1 into a C2....BUT....since buying a full auto conversion kit in either Canada or the US would take an act of God, I still fail to see the SCAR logic...but here we are, right ? I think it's just easier and quicker for the RCMP to simply ban them than actually try and achieve any kind of a compromise.

We sold 2 way back in the .223/5.56 format, as far as I know they where never classed as prohibs, however FNH does not deal with the Canadian retail side (only military, hence all the grey market FN's at inflated prices), and the US State Department stepped on the export from South of the border. Guess they didn't want all us Canadian terrorists having their fun.

The link on the first page of this thread says both In .308 and .223 and prohib.

Well...the dream is over...when your heart is set on one thing, it's really hard to accept any substitutes....thanks for all the info...I should have came here first and saved a lot of typing...lol. (I'll expand on "token Irish's" words..FNH is really hard to contact here but I managed to get their rep on the phone and he wasn't too optimistic, either ) As I said before...I think it's just easier for the RCMP to simply ban them, rather than actually deal with it. AND, that begs the question...I saw the ads for 2 -17s' for sale in Leduc....so why are they for sale ? Is it a scam ( he only wants $2200 a piece ...which sounds low for even the States.....cash / no trades....hmmmmmm, let me think.....(fade to black ))
