I know there has been a lot of talk about possible reclassification and whatnot.. And before people start telling me to buy one and 'fight for the cause, don't give in, etc...' :shotgun: I am in a different situation than most.

I am a student, with not a lot of spending money left over. I want to get a semi-auto centre-fire and I really like the idea of it being non restricted (and also dirt cheap to shoot) - as opposed to the Ar15 platforms. My only concern is buying one and having it reclassified, god forbid it gets prohibited.

So, do you think it is worth a buy in my situation? I have been looking at the EE a lot and I really want to pull the trigger on one, pun intended ;) I would just hate, as would every other owner, to buy it and only have it taken away. I don't have the kind of money to gamble on something that's so risky, if you can understand. And if it becomes restricted, I would sooner have an AR15 platform of some sort. I just want to shoot up some watermelons out in the bush!

Thanks for your thoughts

If you're worried about reclassification buy a CSA or a VZ2008 S&J is bringing in.

probably a stupid question, but who is S&J? Didn't see them over on the board sponsors.. Do you think the RCMP will not try to reclassify the CSA as well considering its similarities?

Buy it man, it's not being reclassified I believe. I'm pretty sure that whole fuss was just about a certain shipment that was coming in. There a big locked thread in the red rifles section all about that fill with a lot of speculation and BS but I took away from it that it won't be going anywhere any time soon.

I love my cz and you will too

S&J is S&J Hardware. They are a board sponsor. The current issue/reclassification speculation with the CZ 858 is do to the RCMP saying the guns were converted autos. CSAs are newly made so the RCMP isn't touching them.

ah, i must be blind. That makes sense.. And also, it is the CZ 858 that is under fire right now, not the VZ right? I will truly never understand the logic behind the RCMPs 'thought process' on classification. People will always find a way to work around something - or simply not follow the rules.

To be honest, any gun that is not prohibited has the chance of getting reclassified and banned.
So just buy what you can afford and want...and enjoy it. Deal with the ban if and when it comes up.

I think it should be noted that the memo from the RCMP to the govt, made back in 2010, obtained by that access to info request said that the RCMP wanted to review the, and I quote "VZ-58 family of rifles". More specifically as an example the CZ-858 was sited. So to me this means they want to review the entire lot ie. CZ-858, CSA VZ-58, etc. etc, starting with the CZ-858. But let it also be noted that in that same memo the RCMP also wanted to review the entire family of AR-15 rifles. So I think it's pretty apparent that the RCMP's mission is clear. To get the semi auto rifles out of the hands of civilians.

never understand their logic either. I would think that my 10 round 45 pistol would be more of a concern in the hands of someone gone postal than a 5 round rifle. more shots and easily concealed if needed. there's really no reason to prohibit any of these guns.
