My 1st bear ever. :dancingbanana: My son today said he wanted to go for a walk in the woods. Glad we shared this moment.

.270 130 grn at 50 yards. Caused so much damage. I lost quite a bit of meat. not happy at all.

Bullet passed thru the heart, hit the rib cage on opposite side, deflected into the shoulder and destroyed it and I found the bullet inside his neck.

Sucks about te meat loss but still more then you started out with this morning. Awesome you got to share the experience with your son, hope to be able to do the same one day.

Good job on taking the boy out, the smile says it all. You are going to have a great hunting partner for years to come. Sorry about the loss of meat but umm bear roasts.

Nice bear. What Bullet? Game King BT by any chance?

Federal Blue Box. The only ammo my Ruger American likes for some reason.

Very nice... Congratulations... You must have been pumped when you were lining up the sights?

I almost lost sight of the bear, A bit to much excitement, when I shoulder the gun I couldn't find the bear in the scope... lol ...

Any bullet that is suitable for hunting can and will also destroy soft tissue.Collateral damage IMO............. 3/4 of a bear is better that a wounded or lost bear.Eat right up to the bullet hole.Nice bear BTW...........Harold

Congrats, always like to see the young lads out hunting with dad. Too bad about the meat loss but like Zanelike said you have more meat than you started with ,not to mention the bonding with your son.

Had Bear sloppy joes last night. It was my 1st time ever eating Bear.

Im surprised on how good it taste. This one was corn feed and 2 years old max.

I agree on how good bear meat tastes....as long as a person doesn't shoot a garbage bear or one that has been feeding on dead salmon for a few months it is one of my favorites.
congrats on the bear.

Congrats on the blackie and good for you on taking the young 'un along. How does bear meat taste by the way? Its one animal I've never ate.

I've a fair bit of experience with the .270 and cup and core 130's, and I can say that your wound results are completely typical. They kill real fast, but if you don't keep your shots inside the rib cage you will lose lots of meat.

As Mbogo3 stated though, 3/4's of a bear dead on the spot is better than a wounded animal that got away.

Bear has always been good eating in my home, and there are plenty of them around...

Just pulled the skull out of the peroxide yesterday.... I almost threw up that sh!t stunk so bad...

Turned out pretty good. Now i'm gonna build a shadow box for it...
