6.5mm Creedmore Cartridge. Thoughts/experience???

Some guys just prefer one brand of brass over another and vice-versa. Personally I avoid Federal brass like the PLAGUE, I had a very bad experience with a brand new bag of it and will not touch it again. My go to primer though is Federal Gold Medal Match, go figure eh?

I don't think you could tell the difference between any of the common 6.5 cartridges other than their physical appearance, they all do the job they were intended to do and that is to launch high BC bullets at reasonable speeds and little recoil and hit little things waaaayyyyy over there. What the headstamp on the brass says has little effect on the end results, that dead elk in a previous post proves it. That elk would have been taken just as cleanly with any of the cartridges mentioned if the same bullet had been placed in the same spot at the same speed. Period.

Think that statement could made of 75% of cartridges out there. It's funny how people get so hung up on cartridges and their perceived benefits but at the end of the day, it all comes down to making a hole in something vital. It's fun to play with new ones and I'll never stop but I'm not so naïve as to believe that they are offering something revolutionary when compared to cartridges with a bit of history to them. Vanessa would have just as easily killed that elk with her 30-06 or my 270WSM, 7RM or 338WM. We just decided it was a good day to take the Creedmoor for a walk and with her broken arm, keeping recoil down is important. Besides, someone had to draw first blood with it....

I couldn't agree more and congrats to your wife (?) on the fantastic animal, and yes I did notice the cast on her arm. Quite an accomplishment! Yeah for the 6.5s!

People do get hung up on some calibers for sure .. But I am looking real hard at a 6.5x55 .
There is so little difference in a 260 rem ...6.5x55 or creedmore that it is not worth worrying about.
But I think the deciding factor is getting a gun you like in the caliber you like .
The 26 is a fine caliber but no one makes them .. Savage makes the 260 in the Axis and rem makes them in the model seven I believe ..
You can find lots of husqvarnas in 6.5x55 . I believe the husky is a better built gun than a model seven or axis .. So I guess I am getting a 6.5x55 instead of a 260 ..
Also I do not reload.. But there is a guy not far from here that has a tika in 6.5x55 that does reload .
So I have access to reloads too if I so desire ..
So I think the caliber that get chosen is sometimes more about access to ammo .. The type of gun you want etc

Doesn't factory CM ammo. come with the loading recipe on the box....that's an advantage. Ballistically there is no advantage. Cool factor, Creedmoor rolls off the tongue better than 260 remington.

Nope and it's loaded with a proprietary powder so you couldn't duplicate it away but from my experience with CM, it's an easy cartridge to load for.

Well sheep, Have to say ... you are one lucky man.
Vanessa rocks!.

As to 6.5's?.
Will never forsake the x55 Swede.
If the shoulder was to be bumped back 75 thou., for a longer neck, with some of the shorter bullets, in deeper throat's ... it'd be nigh on perfect.
Then again, this cal. is all about long, high BC, projectiles launched at moderate vels.
2600-2800fps with .600'ish BC's .... that kicks arse.

No matter the chambering used to get there. ;)

Back in the '80s when Jim Carmichel developed the 260 Remington he originally called it the 6.5 Panther. Thats is a COOL name.

Funny, that was the pitch when they introduced the 6.5 CM, the recipe(s) would be right on the label. I wonder why they changed that.

Hmmm...not sure but I have a box right here in front of me sans recipe. Not sure if it was ever on the box but perhaps when they brought out the 9th Edition manual they stopped...I don't know. They have so many proprietary powder blends for Superformance ammo that I'm not sure how you could replicate their load.

There's more than that mike but they're a bit on the rare side. If you look on Savages site they offer the 260 in several rifles. Last year I bought a model 16fcss, now granted I had to wait about four months to get it. Although shown as an option there were none in Canada and I had to wait for one to be made, (actually I learned that I had to wait for an order of 25 to come in before the factory would crank any out). Omenica/Nechako set this all up for me. Also I see PR I believe listing a Ruger Hawkeye in 260. This could be a similar deal though, listed as a calibre from the factory but few made. Where else was it... Tikka I think show the 260 as well. The above also list the Creedmoor too iirc. I do believe the 26cal/6.5mm family is gaining a foothold a little more each year in the last decade. And the Creed is only helping the cause of course.

Well Hornady advertised the loads where printed on the box for match shooters to copy those loads. And that falls right in line with my 9 boxes of match ammo in my house. But the 4 boxes of sst/gmx don't have the load Printed.

And Two-dogs. How long ago did your son have the Savage rep tell him to get a 260? Was it when Cabelas had the grand opening or in the past 2 months?

As far as my experience with the 6.5 Creedmoor. Its a accurate, light recoiling round that doesn't seem to be too picky with hand loads. Compared to my 6.5x55,the only real difference is it is a short action and ammo's a bit harder to get. As far as it compared to a 260, my reason for going with the Creedmoor is ammo was cheaper for what I wanted.
120gr and 140 amax $29 a box
129gr sst $32
120gr gmx $38

.260
142gr Federal match ammo $38 a box
140gr Corelock $37 a box
125gr Nosler partition $55 a box

The only down fall has been getting boxes of new brass and non match grade reloading dies. Found both but took some online searching

The 308 was necked up and down since its inception by a pile of people, along with a mess of other cases like the 6.5WSM for example, antother wildcat which he has tried to hang his name on.
Although Carmichel SAYS he developed it, he was jut one of many.
I don't believe him or Rick Jameson had any more proprietary right to stuff like that than any other wildcatter.
However, you can bet that more than a little ammo and guns have been sold because their names have been associated with said cartridges.....
