Sub $500, 9mm recommendations for 1st pistol?

Not sure why you are looking for an argument where there is none. My comment about being well stocked for ammo has nothing to do with decent guns under the $500 mark. Your opinion about the M-93 is one in a million. As they say opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one. It is a cheap gun to have fun with. I was by no means recommending it to anyone.

"There is no rimfire pistol in the market worth more than 500 bucks". Both of the pistols you recommended with tax and and shipping are over the $500 mark unless you find a great sale somewhere. I for one do not want to spend that kind of money on a .22. (not to knock those out there who do). Just not the purpose of the thread.

I will agree that the cost of ammunition is something to consider when buying any firearm. The cost of ammunition is not part of this discussion. It's price remains fairly constant. The interest is in the weapon. There are many good reliable .45 cal. firearms out there that would be great for a first time shooter (cost of ammunition aside).

I can assure you have many "big boy toys" in long guns. This is merely my entrance into handguns. To someone who has never had their hands on a firearm before it may be sound advice to start with a .22 but again not part of this discussion.

Not looking for a fight.

No your comment does not have anything to do with it, but look if you had 600 bucks to buy a handgun, ammo the full meal deal, the rest needs to be used to pay other crap. Would you buy a $600 sam 1911 in 45 acp then have nothing left to shoot it with? Or spend say 350 buy the ruger rimfire and having some spare change leftover to buy ammo with and actually shooting? I'm just saying for the benefits of people that just got their license the caliber selection is quite important as well. It does not directly pertain to anything you said. Just some food for thought for someone that may be completely new and just looking for some direction. Sorry if I gave the impression that it was directed at you, it was not.

Now if they have tons of cash come in and say I want a HK45, they are free to buy a HK45.

And no those pistols are not over 500.

I really dont have many "big boy toys" in long guns, I have 2 czs one of which is going to be shot a lot, the other occasionally. one ar that I am trying to sell, and a savage bolt action for precision practicework, a nagant to annoy people with, and a savage mkii and ruger 1022. and the last two dont really count as big boy toys I guess. So not sure how you are assuring I have lots.

Lastly fixing a number for a pistol and saying I want to spend this much find me a gun to fit the price is a pretty wonky way to look at it. Why not just say, this is what I want out of this pistol, how much am I looking at? Then work your funds to that level?

Do you want to be a part of the super cool 1911 fan club but dont have the 4 figures it costs for the big name brands? Well there is a norc with your name on it.
Do you secretly love glocks but since you have been bashing them your whole life cant be seen with one? Welcome to the ruger sr9 and/or springfield XD.
Do you like ww2 or other old milsurp? There are plenty of tokarevs and other old junk for you to play with.
Do you like to deal drugs and hang out at the corner street at the shady part of town? There is a hipoint just for you :p stop throwing stuff at me I kid I kid.
If you enjoy buying a new $160 pile of poop every other week buy the norc m93.

There seems to be a wide range in the 22/45 (not that I want one but clearly there are older and newer models) most were in the $450 range that I saw. ie Grouse River $499, Frontier Firearms $430, Wolverine $440, Cabelas $440, Calg. Shooting $450 etc. plus tax and shipping but most were out of stock. Regardless the point of the thread was to provide options to the budget conscious new shooter (for 9mm guns originally) not .22's, keeping $500 as a limit. (not including ammunition and accessories which could easily go into the hundreds). I see absolutely nothing wrong with self-imposing a limit and trying to buy the very best you can get for that money.

The big boy long guns was referring to me, not you (I missed a letter typing) but who really cares. Clearly this thread has gotten long away from being useful. There are always going to be those people who have nothing better to do than trash other people's comments and suggestions and drift way off topic. I suppose there are those who will always consider their opinions the correct ones and will continue typing fruitlessly trying to convince everyone else of that.

If you have a useful or helpful comment or suggestion related to the thread, feel free to make it, if not, click on.

Yeesh you mad bro?

Yes there are more expensive variants of the rugers and whatnot, but it's all frivolous style junk like different camo or facy spiral fluted barrels or fancy grips, nothing that improves the actual function of the gun. if you justify the extra expense wonderful cough up the extra money. But that is like me saying civics are too expensive because all I see is their top trim ex-l model. there are cheaper sub models that simply have less frilly features that work just as well. But enough about the 22s.

Yes but imposing a fixed budget like that also means you could be ruling out guns just ever so slightly higher than that budget and vastly superior in performance(be it durability, reliability or any other attribute based on the role)

If you want to stay on the op topic the answer is simple. Used glock 17 or M&P9, or if they ever pop up again police trade in german made sig226. The end, for any quality pistols at this price point, you can lock the thread now. You want to buy garbage like sr9 or viking, or tokarevs it's a free country go nuts buy all three if you want. If you wanted a quality pistol, your options are limited at this budget point.

SFRC has the S&W M&P 22 on for 419.00 with free shipping.

Don't talk to him about rimfire, he only plays with the cool kids that run centerfire.

I have yet to see a TT that runs for more than a single magazine without a stoppage. Who offers sights and holsters for the TT, and who wants to spend half their time replacing parts that should never have failed in the first place? So you buy 2 or 3 to keep one running, that's $600 for a marginal performer with a poor track record. That kind of coin can get you a known make and model that won't fail consistently, but its your money..

TDC

plenty of modern holsters and mag pouches available for TT ;)

Fobus makes holsters for the Viking...just saying. Just bought a mp446c off the EE and I can't wait for the transfer to come through. I was super stoked to learn it is the civilian version of the Grach, my favorite pistol in the Battlefield series of video games.

Quick search revealed nothing on their site.
