Today was my eighth range trip with my first/only rifle.
I feel pretty good! I don't know how I could shoot much better without having super vision or self-warming fingers :)

Rifle is a CZ 455 .22 LR, and I'm shooting from a sandbag.

Here's 25 yards. The diamonds are exactly 1.5 inches wide. (ignore the shoot-n-c targets, I was just screwing around)

And 50 yards. The Shoot-N-C target is 6" diameter, and I have no idea how big my sharpie targets are!

Try some higher end match ammo with the 455. I have shot groups with eley team in the .3 range at 50. Good shooting for a guy starting out though. Keep at it can only get better. I should add that you picked one heck of a great gun for a first one. Congrats.

Look like your off to a good start! As said befor try some better ammunition and you might be amazed at the difference !

In regards to the self made sharpie targets , good enough for fun plinking , bad idea for trying to shoot groups ! Refined aiming point - small groups , big aiming point , big groups ! Next time if your in a pinch for targets , make a small circle (1" or less , depending what you can see with your sights ) then adjust so the point of impacts so it's 2" or so above point of aim . This allows for a refined target to aim at that doesn't get shot out .

Print this out and hang it on your wall...it will give you a smile next year! :) But that is nice work for a new shooter.

Since you are actually cheap enough to make your own targets...like me!...try using an old CD as a stencil. I use red spray paint, and it gives me a tiny aiming point in red (the centre hole) which is good for precise aiming at close range or with a scope, as well as a larger white ring surrounded by red (the diameter of the CD) for use at longer range or with coarse open sights. Red (or any other colour) is better than black because it makes the bullet holes easier to see.

Congrats, and enjoy.

Thanks guys, I was indeed shooting crappy Winchester 555. I've got some CCI Standard Velocity lined up to try next time :)

Yeah, I look forward to proving myself wrong! Thanks!

Fantastic idea. I'll have to try that out.

Google...Targets....there are many sites that have free printable targets for the taking. you can have a variety just for price of the paper. i print many many of them.
Yup I know, I had printed the diamond ones because I had been practicing at 25 yards. I felt ready for 50, but hadn't printed any bigger targets, so I had to make do

The sharpie circles were just about the right size to make for a nice dot to centre in my front globe sight at 50 yards. I could fit a smaller sight, but I don't know if my eyes are up for smaller at that distance ;)

Thanks again everybody. This is a fun as hell hobby. Can't wait to blow more money on it...

I buy round stickers (3/4") from staples. Something like 400 stickers on sheets in a pack and they're cheap. Come in different colours to for different colour backgrounds you may stick them to.
Good shooting by the way.

I just picked up a New CZ 455 Lux a few weeks ago. Nice groups. Better ammo and those will shrink dramatically!

ok

ill tell my secret for making cheap plinking targets!

a bingo dabber!

i picked up a red one and i just take a piece of paper and put a couple nice clear 'Dob's' on it and away i go!

they are 1" perfect circles so real nice to shoot at and nice for trying to practice small groups.

and..... cheap!

That is some fine shooting and it is interesting to compare your experience with my own.I went in to a local gun store to buy some ammo and walked out with the ammo and a CZ 452 Lux. I like the sights on this rifle but at the range I found that at 25 yards my vision was not good enough to resolve a 4 inch square let alone one 1.5 inches.
A trip to the optometrist is in order and after that if things don't improve I might blow my X-mas bonus on some optics for the rifle.

My groups are definitely bigger than this using the stock sights... I shot these using some BRNO aperture sights. :)
Optics are looking mighty tempting to me too...
