Another Ugly Garand build

Very nice! I've never seen an op rod with "7.62" on it, was that standard for all converted Garands? Besides the smaller gas port on the .308 bbl and the magazine block, are the .308 op rod specs different from the .30/06?

gas port is larger on the 308. less power than the 06 needs more gas volume to make up for the lower pressure.

My bad, thanks for that!

The oprod is just shorter by 1/2 inch, otherwise identical

How scarce are the 7.62 op rods?

Edit: just did a quick search and it looks like you can use a standard .30/06 op rod if the .308 bbl is the same length as the typical .30/06 bbl. The Italians used shorter bbls in the .308 version, hence the shorter op rod.

I was thinking I would put it on the gun show table for eighteen and three quarters, I think that would be reasonable, still less than JRA's by a couple hundred , in my opinion better quality, will be more desirable to some in ".308", and somewhat rare in the Beretta 7.62 configuration.
What would you ask for such a thing.

all of the italian converted ones are marked, I am guessing that there was a 7.62 /1 and then the 7.62/2 , all the ones that I have had/ seen have been the "2 " version and all but one have been SA rods

Easier and cheaper to get a standard length .308 barrel. The italian version requires about half a dozen parts that are modified
