TV Host/hunter being bashed for her latest kill

How do you know what his point is?

But I'm equally confused by your comments, why should we encourage anyone to do anything here to stop this practice? Why not call a spade a spade and just tell the antis how uninformed they are or better yet, ignore their nonsense. I definitely don't think offering up suggestions of how to further their cause is prudent. What did the government do wrong?

Sorry I guess I was a little between the lines as well. blasted_saber got my point exactly. When we want firearms laws changed we don't attack antis, we go for legislation. I guess I was just trying to show how senseless these folks were. Relax. Don't burn me at the stake, I would go hunt a lion as well.... with a spear!!!
I have offered by kudos to her and to chin up. We are all in this together!

Seeing as many of us thought the same Duffy, it's doubtful we all share the same funny spot in our brain. Perhaps it was your wording? Just something to consider.

No I think there are a lot who share that same funny spot.

For example on this lion hunting thing. If one says "ya i'd love to hunt lion... the next guy will probably say the same and so on. Then if someone says "I have never seen the point of hunting lions" There will be a few who say "Why are you jumping all over lion hunters? what are you anti hunting or something?"

The thing about my wording is a lot of folks just don't see the difference between "I don't know if I could come up with a reasonable explanation (for lion hunting) and "I hate lion hunters"

That wasn't the wording I had the issue with but I think you already know that. Just thought it might be something you'd like to consider in the future to avoid this messiness...apparently not....carry on!

I was curious as to what sort of "huge mistakes and misunderstandings" would result in this gent getting banned from the other forum.

Never mind...got it.

Haha! It's always the everyone else's imagination... or, 'funny spot', isn't it? Apparently you haven't learnt from the 'injustice in your life'...

And a long history of same... :)

it's hard to defend something that you yourself don't approve of...

It shouldn't be... We need to defend freedom first and foremost. Remember the Voltaire quote "I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it." As hunters we need to defend our right to responsibly and ethically hunt.

This is definitely worth a read on the Melissa Bachman lion hunt. Worth passing along to non-hunters as well. http://www.dailymaverick.co.za/opinionista/2013-11-19-in-defence-of-a-lion-killer/#.UouhjTZrY5s

A good read and well put down.

I am still not sure I would feel good using the argument to explain so someone why people shoot lions.

"Nobody else in Africa seems to give much value to their wildlife so outfitters and hunters make and spend money killing things so that there will be more conservation of them." It is the truth. but just sounds odd.

Perhaps it sounds odd to you but it's a pretty easy way to explain hunting and conservation, especially in Africa. In Africa everything is about money....no hunters=no conservation. Not sure why that's so hard to explain. It's the same reason many North American conservation groups exist.

"...and two, I prefer to avoid killing animals personally, even though I happily eat meat."

Too bad the guy is a spineless hypocrite.

How is he a spineless hypocrite? He CLEARLY stated that he supports hunting, he just doesn't want to kill the animals himself. In our society that is totally possible, so why call the guy names?? Are you a hypocrite for driving a car but not changing your own oil?

I don't see the hypocrisy. Lots of people don't want to kill their own meat...so what. It becomes hypocritical when they criticize those that do. I don't want to grow my own vegetables but I happily eat carrots. I don't criticize those that enjoy gardening though. Does that make me a hypocrite?

I do change my own oil.

True. He didn't criticize those who do. I misspoke. I just have extreme views about eating meat.

I should also say that overall I think it is an excellent article.

....but hunters publically bashing other hunters will be the end of our great heritage!

People #####ing and moaning about other people isnt exclusive to hunters. With the internet now, its easy to get momentum behind an opinion and distribute so-called news.

Basically, if you really like doing something, dont share it as it only takes one person to wreck it for you. The problem is that hunters are braggers, and cant help themselves putting stuff on the internet. Oh well.

Kind of like the picture in your profile ;) I like to think of it as sharing and I'm glad so many hunters do. The day we go underground is the day we cease to exist! The heritage of sharing the tales of successful hunts is as old as hunting itself. I don't see it as bragging at all but nothing wrong with a hunter being proud of an accomplishment! Nice buff by the way! Congrats!

Telling stories around the campfire can hardly be compared to posting your kills on facebook for thousands of people with "nothing better to do" to view. I dont veiw it as "going underground" or censoring, rather picking your audience.

Well said, We should be proud to stand up and tell people, I am a hunter and proud of it.
