Your bullet of choice in .204 for coyote?

I used 32grn Vmax and seemed to work good. But I do have some Berger 35grn that have performed very well too

My HS loves 40gr ballistic tips with 27gr of Varget and my CZ likes the 39gr Blitz with 28gr of varget. never shot a coyote but I have seen many gophers learn to fly. FS

35gr Bergers should work in any factory twist barrel. I load them in front of XBR 8208 in my Sako and H4895 in my Browning. When my new Cooper gets here I will be using 40gr Bergers and will even try some 50s until I run out. If I could not find the Bergers the 39gr BKs would be my next choice.

I have a 223rem already for a few years and just stepped up to the 22-250 for more punch on coyotes. Come spring I might have to pick up a 204. What is the best twist on these? I see most are 1:12 is that pretty much the best? I tried to get faster twists in the other 2 varmint calibers I got.

1 in 12 is virtually the only factory twist rate available, though I personally think it is better suited to the lighter varminting/gopher bullets (i.e. <35 gr) than those better suited for coyotes (i.e. >35 gr). I also shoot a custom 1 in 10 twist in a bench rest rig, which handles up to 50 gr with ease. Beyond that, the .204 is probably not the best cartridge for shooting the heavy bullets.

Thanks for the info. This cartridge has peaked my small caliber interest for sure.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the blitzking was first made in 40gr. and it wasn't stabilizing in every 1:12 barrel. So they changed it to 39gr.? Either that or they learnt from a manufacturer's misfortunes and designed theirs accordingly. I've seen the 32gr on gophers but wouldn't trust performance on coyotes.

Recently picked up a savage predator in this caliber.Haven't even checked the twist yet. What bullet and what weight is your go to coyote pill? What powder do you use for it?Thanks

Haven't had much luck stabilizing 40gn pill in my nephews savage. Factory rounds that is. I loaded some 32 gn Noslers with CFE and they work very well.

My Tikka seems very good with everything from 32-45gn.

39 BK ahead of 8208 or CFE is incredible. 25 shot group under 1 inch. Smallest 5 shot group just over .3".
