Hello all I have been reading through the regs and I'm trying to get a clear answer here is my question. Looking to go coyote hunting. They are getting bad at my moms farm. Question is currently only have a .308 but obviously the rifle hunt is over. Is it legal to use this caliber for varmints out side of rifle season. This is no catch already got my deer it is my mothers private property on a farm close to Bancroft Ontario. If anyone could shed some light on the subject I would truly appreciate it.

You are good to go, unless you are in the townships listed in the no season chart. If there is a MuzzleLoader season in your WMU, you need to wear blaze that week.


In WMUs 1A, 1C, 1D, 2-42, 46-50 and 53-58, the following
regulations apply:
• The wolf/coyote hunting season is closed from April 1 to
September 14.
• You may only hunt wolves and coyotes under the authority
of your small game licence accompanied by a wolf/coyote
game seal purchased at licence issuers and participating
ServiceOntario centres. A valid small game licence is required
in order to purchase a wolf/coyote game seal. You can purchase
a maximum of two wolf/coyote game seals per calendar year.
The seals may be purchased separately or at the same time.
• Party hunting of these animals is not permitted.
• You are required to immediately attach your wolf/coyote
game seal to the wolf/coyote you have killed.
• You must complete and mail a mandatory questionnaire on
your wolf/coyote hunting activity and harvest by January
15 of the year following the hunt. You must submit the
questionnaire even if you bought a seal but did not hunt.
Mandatory questionnaires will be mailed to hunters by the
ministry in December. You should mail your completed
questionnaire to the Ministry of Natural Resources, Big
Game Harvest Assessment Program, 1350 High Falls Road,
Bracebridge, ON P1L 1W9, or use the easy and quick online
option at ontario.ca/huntersurvey.
The above regulations include coyotes within core wolf range
(WMUs 1A, 1C, 1D, 2-42, 46-50 and 53-58) because coyotes
may be difficult to distinguish from wolves, especially eastern
wolves, where their ranges overlap. The above regulations do
not apply to wolves and coyotes in WMUs south of core wolf
range (WMUs 43-45 and 59-95).

No coyote season in the following townships.

In the geographic townships of Airy, Alice, Ballantyne, Boulter, Boyd, Bruton, Burns,
Butt, Calvin, Cameron, Chisholm, Clancy, Clara, Clyde, Dickens, Dudley, Eyre, Finlayson,
Franklin, Fraser, Hagarty, Harburn, Harcourt, Havelock, Head, Herschel, Lauder,

Most WMU that have a rifle big game season, have no restrictions on caliber for small game either.

Ya, I'm not sure there is even a season where he is. pretty close to Algonquin
 
If these Coyotes are causing concern on your Mom's farm and harassing or killing live stock, eg: chickens, sheep, your cat dog etc. Then you have the legal right to eliminate the offending coyotes. It is called farm predator control, you are protecting your live stock.

To get the exact rules of the game call the local MNR office tell them you having live stock coyote issues. Bancroft is not covered under the .275 calibre rule so the .308 is good to go. There is also the "three S method", "Shoot" - "Shovel" - "Shut Up".
 
Good to know, I live in Peterborough but go to the farm to get coyotes I should look for places close to home. They are bad around peterborough. 2 close family friends lost dogs out if their back yards to them. Have a nail driver .308 and hand load so I should look into it.
 
You're good to go in 60 as long as you're outside of the Kawartha Highlands park..... No yotes on my properties here in buckhorn but a ton in the ennismore and lakefield areas....
 
Ya hear lots of bad hunts due to the high population in last 4 years. I'm on edge of Peterborough ( Douroish) and I hear them every night but no farms close to me that are affected and I'm a OFAH member insured and everything very respectful but still can't find the confidence to ask other farms. I'm sure everyone knows the feeling. And I would definitely help in fence repair I still have a young and foolish back to help with hay and straw season but hell one of these days I'll get the confidence.
