I just picked up an ACE skeleton stock for my AR. I got it all from one guy and it included the standard A2 buffer tube, spring and a buffer I don't recognize. It's stepped... Longer than a standard buffer with an extra shoulder on it. The A2 buffer tube appears longer than your average 6 position adjustable tube.

My question is this, do I need this different buffer to use the A2 tube? Will a standard buffer work or is it too short? I've only ever used adjustable stocks so is all new to me.

I use a standard JP spring and Spikes buffer.

But you need a spikes buffer spacer in the A2 tube. I picked mine up from brownells.

That strange looking buffer you have is called a Rifle Buffer. They used to be very common before everyone went to the CAR configuration. If you try to use a CAR buffer in the ACE stock it will be way too short.

That explains it. Thanks guys. Is the spring going to be different too?

My next question was going to be where to buy one. ill check brownells. Should have ordered them at the same time as the stocks. OH well.
