stalked by coyotes?

I read peices of this thread and all I keep thinking is that I can't get over how many of you are scared of coyotes lol.... I had one 10 feet infront of me when I was sitting on a feild edge. Not once did I ever worry about it being there.

Your grown men, a couple coyotes shouldn't be an issue!!

What would you guy's do if you had to walk out of the woods past sunset in bear country ??!?!?!? take a tank?

I am a tank!! ;). At least that's what my buddy called me the other day when I dragged my buck (and him, a bit) out.

I shoot 'yotes, mostly. Can't say I worry about them coming around in pairs, but two years ago, there was a pack in my yard, trying to call the dogs off the porch. I set up and shot 3in one day. No more 'yotes around my yard. Biggest problem around town here is their lack of fear. They will follow you on the hiking paths alone, or in twos. Just behind, just off the trail.

I don't know about the yotes in other provinces but with how ballsy they get here and their large size I know that any more then two in a group isn't a good thing when you're on your own.

I was raised a half mile from a coulee, so naturally as a youth I spent every second I could sneak away there. IMO coyotes, like any other predator when in any kind of a pack will start acting like a predator pack. Wether coyotes would actually do anything other than stalk is another discussion; my opinion on that is that any predator pack if it feels it's large enough to take something, will try.

2 coyotes, I wouldn't worry about. Six or eight, I'd start being aware; not that I think they'd likely be real danger, but I'd pay attention just in case. In my own experience, as soon as they realize you know they're stalking you, they slink off.

I can agree with this. Several aggressive 50lb dogs in a pack pose a credible threat to an unarmed adult regardless of how tough people want to think they are.

Keep in mind those eastern yotes are quite a bit bigger than the ones we see in Alberta. The ones we have here don't concern me at all unless there is a fair pack of them, but if they were 50% bigger that opinion would change.

I wonder does the OP hunt in a populated area where the coyotes are used to seeing people? Maybe that would explain their behaviour.
Around here they bolt as soon as see anyone and for good reason, they are routinely shot at.
