10 years? 20? More?

Is it even a concern, since 7.62x39 is said to be the world's most popular and widely used cartridge?

8mm surplus Mauser was plentiful in a similar fashion, and that ended in the 80's apparently(?)
BLAAAA!!!!!
HAHAHAHAHA!!!!
The most heavily produced centerfire round on planet earth is all of a sudden going to dis-appear???
LOL!!!
Thanx CGN I missed these posts.

I am going by John's own words from a couple of years back. He said they had millions of rounds of 8x57 stuck overseas because NRCAN would not let him import it. If that has changed it is great news, hopefully Europe now lets it out.
Mark

If I recall corrrectly, it did get out of Europe and went to our southern neighbour. I may be wrong but I thought that was how that story ended.

NRCAN, or more appropriately ERD, used to have a requirement that to approve any explosive that was not of your own manufacture, you needed written authorization from the manufacturer to act on their behalf. You can imagine, for surplus ammunition made 40+ years ago by a now defunct state arsenal, how much of a problem that could be.

I met with ERD inspectors on non-gun related matters in Ottawa a couple of years back but had time to chat about these issues. I was informed that after some successful lobbying by the ammunition industry in Canada (which ERD mentioned to me is VERY disorganized and nowhere near as effective as SAAMI, for instance) the requirements for approving surplus ammunition were relaxed in order to fill the market need. You see, ERD is in fact quite a reasonable organization that hardly deserves the vilification you constantly see here. Much like the RCMP they have written law to follow, and they apply it as it is written. However UNLIKE the RCMP, they have the power to rewrite the laws and regulations in order to fit new concepts and products, and the new regulations due out next year will make some VERY exciting products available. If gun owners would stop behaving like petulant children towards them you might see greater progress. Government "servant" or otherwise you're far less inclined to assist someone when all they give you is scorn and derision.

AK, that is good news. Many of us heard of the restrictions that you mention in your first paragraph. It was seen as strangling off surplus and other ammunition supplies, due to impossible, problematic, unreasonable requirements.

It is great to hear that some agencies can move in a positive direction for 'new products and concepts' as you state, and change regulations and be reasonable. Hearing what you have said, I think many will see NRCAN/ERD in a postive light.

The firearms that fire it will be banned in 3 years.. the ammo, who knows but it does not matter. The U.N. and their cronies will have their way with all ammo I presume.

I wish I was just "sky falling it" but I fear not.

Or we could not let that happen.

I've heard (nothing but rumours at work) the US is again going to tighten restrictions on mil surp ammo from some countries and steel core bullets like they did in the 90's. If that happens, we get it all and maybe we'll have $100 cases again.

I'd love that. But at the end of the day, the anti-gunners hate us, and should they every get power, god forbid, they'll use said power to screw us over.

But still, everyone should join the NFA and CSSA. Every little bit helps.

is this is true we will have a lot of ammo to buy ^^ 1200 round at 100$ that .08$ a round ^^ that will be soo great.

I just got an ad from a major US dealer in ammo & components that they are selling Wolf 7.62x39 in various bullet styles for $228/1000. This is for new manufacture, steel cased, non-corrosive ammo. Too bad we can get similar deals up here but it's my understanding that there are no licenced importers for Wolf ammo in Canada. This could be incorrect but I don't see any dealers handling it.

i think sfrc have some wolf ammo but it more for the pistol , being able to shoot the cheap surplus at .17-.18 $ a round that excellent when the .223 cost is close to be twice that

They can't get any steel core 7.62x39 so how would that effect the price? The price of 7.62x54r might be better but it won't go any lower then 200$.

What we might get though is some cheaper miscellaneous surplus( gp11 and other less common ammo) and lead core 7.62x39 surplus and maybe even some nice brass cased yugo 7.62x39.
