Successful conversion!!

I just finished converting 100 pcs of Browning [made by Norma] 300 Win Mag
brass to 308 Norma Mag brass.

Quite straight forward, really. Lube inside of neck with powdered graphite.
[Since these were brand new cases, no need to lube outside of case at all]
Particularly important not to put any liquid lubes on the shoulder area of the 300 case.

Run through the 308 Norma FL die, Trim to 2.550", chamfer in and out ----all done! ready to load and use.
Not one case with a wrinkled or bulged neck...all came out perfect.

Now I can feed my Leeper-built 700 in 308 NM.

I always used either 7mm RM or .338 WM.

I only wish my sttempt at making .30-06 AI from Nosler .280 AI went so smoothly.

hmm glad it went so smooth. did you happen to check neck thickness? id be curious if the process of *necking down* the shoulder/body of the 300wm, to the now neck of the 300NM gave an overly thick neck wall...

Neck thickness is within .001 of what the original case was, so good to go there.

You can see a faint line where the original 300 WM neck met the shoulder.
This is now about .080" up from the new junction of neck/shoulder.

I have actually converted many 300 WM cases to 308 Norma in the past.
Have never run into a neck thickness issue yet.

Reason I don't use 7mm Rem Mag or 338 Win mag is that they are some .060" short
when done, and I prefer the full length result of using the 300 WM case, even if
it means a bit more work.

Is the factory 308 Norma hard to find where you are Dave ?
I have a lifetime supply for mine and there always seems to be lots at the gun shows.
At the Kamloops Show last April there were several tables with boxes of Norma brass, at least half a dozen boxes of new unfired and a bunch of "who knows how many times fired ".
If you are totally satisfied with the good results you're having thats great, but if you are ever looking for factory brass I can watch for some for you....
