Tough to beat a Ruger Vaquero but you lose the half-#### safety in exchange for a safety bar.
Piettas are fairly affordable and closer to an authentic Colt SAA.
Beretta/Uberti are nicer than Piettas in fit/finish and smoother action but the price goes up.

Rather than create another thread, thought I would resurrect this one ...
For someone like myself that is new and interested in Cowboy Action, I am also looking for a SA revolver(s) and don't really know benefits/drawbacks between able to "half-#### or what a "safety bar" is. Still like the Ruger Vaquero though since I can use the same ammo with my Marlin 1894C in .357
"...benefits/drawbacks between..." Hi. The difference is new technology vs 100 plus year old technology and a grand or more in price.
The only downside with SASS, for some shooters, is the costume/stage name requirement. Wouldn't worry about it myself. Oh and you need a 19th Century style shotgun and rifle too.

Classic where are you from, there are CAS clubs all over Canada. If CAS shooters know your location I am sure someone will invite you to come out and watch, a lot of times they will also let you try their firearms.

Right now, I'm still living in NJ and plan to move back to Southern Ontario sometime next year when I eventaully sell my home down here in the US. Wanted to possibly visit a couple of matches and start getting familiar with what's involved and what's required.

There are tons of SASS clubs in the US. I am sure if you look around you will find some clubs nearby. Google time ???

I'm in Southern ONtario, and you can go to a CAS shoot virtually every weekend all year long now. In the winter, Barrie has shoots twice a month, Guelph once a month, Burlington once a month, and Wentworth once a month (all on Sat or Sun). St Catherines shoots twice a month on Wed I Believe. All indoors. Summers there are shoots from Sarnia to Ottawa, like I said every weekend. Check out the O.S.A.S.F. (ONtario Single Action Shooting Federation) website. All the dates are posted. If you want a preview down in NJ, check the SASS website. They do have some listings of clubs throughout the states. There will be something near you and you can go watch, ask questions, and likely get a chance to try out different guns. There's a certain amount of personal preference involved in what you choose, and it's nice to try different things before you drop your cash. The Rugers are dead reliable, but some prefer the feel of a Colt clone. Some like the cool factor of shooting something different (like open tops, or top break S&W copies). Some masochists even shoot cap & ball. If you get up here and don't have guns yet, PM me and I'll let you try what I've got (Old Model Ruger Vaquero's, Uberti Open Tops, original S&W new model # 3's) I even shoot a Spencer replica once in a while. Slow but fun. Good luck with your quest.
