Some things I never want to see mentioned again:
1. Kovrov. Try Podolsk.
2. Naval. No it's not.
3. Sniper rail but no notch. A ‘sniper’ has both.
4. SVT-38 magazine. Actually it's early-style magazine.
(Aside: people replying and quoting all the pictures.)
But most of all:
5. Izzy. STOP IT.
With that out of the way, I also couldn't resist the lure of $199 SVTs, even though I've already got so many I probably forgot where I buried them all. Went for two to start with, and didn't specify any features, nor pay the extra fee for such. (Landed price to Nova Scotia $250 and change, darn the tax.)
What I received were fairly ordinary examples, in great [re-furbished] condition, with no particularly rare or desireable features. A 1941 and a '43. A Tula and an Izhevsk. One with scope rails. One gold bolt, one plum. Both 12-port brakes. Both narrow trigger guards. And so on. Not really worth plugging up the thread with more pictures.
One stock is early thin-wristed, the other thicker and with a ‘repair’ (not really) eliminating the un-needed AVT selection notch; this is the only such patch, and I was actually rather hoping they might send one with a dozen pieces replaced, which would be a change. With everyone seeming to request the later loop-sling slotted stock, it's not surprising they sent the earlier standard type to a guy who didn't pay extra.
Bores aren't completely scrubbed out and test-fired yet, but they look really good, and better than I expected.
Accessories were one ammunition pouch for rounds on chargers, three tools (punch, jag, handle), and ‘Mickey Mouse’ oil/solvent bottle (and of course the cleaning rod and magazine which attach to the rifle). No sling, no tool pouch (as shown in the picture of the whole crate).
Packed in 28 kilograms of Cosmoline. In all, not disappointed, and well worth the cost at this ridiculous bargain basement price, though if you're collecting and need certain features, I don't know how reliable their ‘hand-pick’ service is.
When the next pile of money comes in, I'll see about justifying getting a crate (if they still have any available). The posted crate picture shows two types of slings, tool kit pouches, oil bottle pouches. Looks like a scope cover as well, am I crazy? (Please don't tell me you got bayonets and scopes/mounts in your crate.) Any parts in the tool kit besides the three I mentioned? Did you get the crate's original inventory slip, as well?
