as far as I know the ring that holds the barrel to the mag tube is also brazed on, I wouldn't be applying enough heat to get the braze to flow near that area at all.

i just twisted mine, snapped off then cleaned off the barrel

I needed to fit mine under a shroud, so I saw it in half, and plan on filing it down to make it prettier!
If it can just snap it of with a vice grip, I will try it, it will save me a couple hours of filing!
Did you heated it before snapping it off?
