I was planning on going out today but the weather was a little bit poo poo, I stayed in instead. I figured it was a good day to strip the XCR and assess for damages.

This is my favorite black rifle, it's my only;). I bought the rifle in May '13

Today I added it up, I'm at 4516 rounds, that's not an estimate. 4510 rounds of corrosive surplus 7.62x39, and 6 rounds of Winchester soft point.

Well, here we go. I didn't remove the trigger today, just cleaned and oiled. This is the 4th time I've removed the barrel.

I forgot to mention, I'm no photographer.
Here's the best I could get of the rifling and chamber,

Next up, bolt and gas. Some wear is showing on the bolt but nothing serious. This is op-rod number 2 for me, the oe broke ~800 rounds ago.

You can see a design change here. I haven't found the cause of the break but the rod had a slight bend after the first 500 rounds. The bend was in the piston, a couple inches ahead of the crack.

Here's a couple of the lower,
[

All in all the gun is holding up ok. It's still a minute of gong rifle with no miracle groups, just a fun shooter.
As for reliability, I can't complain. Every round has gone bang, every round! On break in when new I had 2 ftfeed. I have had a couple mag problems, not seating. The problem has been narrowed down to 2 magazines and only happens if I'm treating the gun like a princess.
The buffer pads are still oe and I run the gas on setting 1.

Last pic. What do you store in your grip?

It's Loc-Tite and a spare bolt buffer.
:)

Ok I gotta go. The rifle's going hunting in the morning, I'll be zeroing by headlight.

good luck on the hunt.

Very cool, thanks for the report. I'm at 3500 round on my ACR and haven't had to replace anything yet. At 5000 rounds I'm going to post up some pictures of the components. As of right now everything looks thr same as it did after 200 rounds.

Everything is green and the weather is poo?

Good eye, that pic is from 2 months back iirc. I couldn't get a decent inside shot, poor lighting.
We had ~50mm of rain yesterday and expecting the same today. I should be out looking for my deer but I'm a puss. Oh well, I've got till Dec.15.

@Stephen; Ya but can you hunt with your ACR :p

@smak; I'm looking forward to pics of Mrs Smak holding the XCR or anything else really, other than you of course. :)

Thanks guys

Hey Andrew, the thickness remains the same in appearance, what has changed is the piston length.
The original op rod is two pieces, the new one is three. The piston is shorter with an adapter between it and the spring tube.

I'll try pics from my phone, the computer fizzled.

Great info and post. I love these rifles
You dont need to quote all the pics.

What you talkin bout Willis!

Nice feed what is your cleaning regiment on you xcr since your using all corrosive looks like it's holding up great I'm at 1500 on my .556 xcr and have had zero flaws they are great rifles

Aargh! Stop quoting all the pics people. Unless you are referencing a specific pic, no need for that.

Anyways, nice rifle, OP. That's a lot of rounds in less than 1 year. Good on ya.

Op rod breaking in only 800 rounds would piss me off, but it's good that they addressed the issue, both from a warranty and design perspective.

Cheers.

Looks pretty good for having shot 4500 rounds of steel cased and jacketed surplus ammo, I guess they aren't as bad as I though. Might have to pick one up.

:p you asked for it.lol
