Is anyone out there running this scope on a .308? I know the rapid 1000 is recommended for the .308 but I have a brand new rapid 800 in my possession. I have used the Zeiss rapid z system for a few years with various rifles and scopes, just not the .308 . So if anyone out there is using this combo and the drops are working out I would love to know what bullet/ load you are using along with what magnification setting you use to make it all work.

Sure it will work....just run your load or potential load through the Rapid Z online program and it will tell you your optimum magnification. I suspect your optimum magnification will be several power off maximum but no reason it won't work. Just run the numbers the same as you did for the other rifles you have the Rapid Z on.

Best to go to the Zeiss website and run the calculator with your intended load/ammo.
The reticles are somewhat universal but not completely.I have had to change out the type of Rapid Z reticle in my scopes to fit particular loads.
On some loads/chamberings they will not calibrate due to bullet path.
Between the Rapid Z 600,800, 1000 and varmint, there will be one that works.

I just ran the calculator using a Hornady 165gr SST Superperformance, with a Conquest Classic 4.5-14x44 with the Rapid-Z 800 reticle, and at 10x the subtensions landed almost perfectly at each 100 yard increment...so yes, it should work fine. Generally speaking, as the RZ-800 was designed for magnums, the slower your .308 load, the lower the mag will need to be to approximate the subtensions, with the converse being true as well.
Yes, the RZ600 is likely a better fit for a hunting application but the RZ800 will most definitely work.
I do know for a fact that my .270 with a rapid Z-800 shooting a 130 sierra game king with 60 grains of h4831 would shoot bang on the 100, 200,300,400, and 500, but dropped a bit more at 600, lots more at 700 and 800 worked better at 700 than it did 800. Those distances where in meters as well as I found they worked out better than yards in the real world. My magnification setting was at 10.5 for optimum performance. Thinking if I find a .308 load that has better ballistics long range than the 130 game king for my old .270 setup it could work. Basically I noticed the zeiss calculator got me close but at the farther distances (past 500m) the calculator vs reality were two different things. Hoping someone with a .308 can chime in and provide some real world facts with this combination to save me some time.
If your further down range yardage aren't in line with the computer, I suspect it's an error with the muzzle velocity or bullet BC that you input. The most common culprit is bullet BC. Often manufacturers are a bit generous.
Well the old scope and .270 have gone to a new home so no worries about playing around with that. I have a brand new Z-800 and a .308 savage coming so I was kind of just looking for input on if anyone has had this combo. As for the old 270 I wouldn't have played with the magnification because 100-500 were perfect just 600-800 were not. Probably would have been best to change bullets but I had a super accurate load so that wasn't going to happen either. Time will tell if the .308 gets the Zeiss or not. Might sell or trade it and get the Z-1000 since it was made for the .308
