lock n load progressive press what its your opinion

I want 1 but, how good really is this machine? Can you share the good or bad of this hornady progressive press

I load 9mm, 44mag, 45acp, 223, 300 blackout, 30-30,308 on my lnlap.

I've had few issues but overall very happy, and when setup correct can do 250-300/hour for pistol rounds.

Hornady have been great when it comes to support, emailed them regarding 9mm shell plate and shims for powder measure and they sent both free of charge.

Instructions are easy as long as you follow them :)

Hornady has youtube channel which helps, and there are other youtube channels to help.

I'm easily at 500 with the casefeeder.

Overall, I'm pretty happy wth it

Loading just 9mm for the last 6 years, no feeders (case or bullet), making 400rds an hour. Happy with the press.
5 of my friends went with LNL after they saw it in action and tried it at my place. None regrets it.

Set up is straight forward,
Their you tube videos are really helpful.
Only issues I found;
-The grease nipples are pressed in, not threaded.
-Make sure the dealer has all the parts you need as back orders take forever...
-If you load .40S&W the drop tube parts are less than ideal- their instructions admit this. I used a Lee drop tube and drilled a few items out basing sizes off the Lee Pro1000 case feeder. Works perfectly now.
-Filling the primer tubes sucks; get a Frankford Arsenals Vibra-Prime.
Great press, I highly recommend it.
Very smooth.

They are a great press & Hornady is an excellant company to deal with. They also send you Free Bullets afteryou buy the press. No one else does that. I've sold lots of them & no negative feedback on them. I have them in stock & ready to ship. Shellplates & Vibra-prime also.
Regards, Henry

If you get any progressive press you have to get the vibra-prime, it saves so much frustration filling those primer tubes.

I purchased my lnlap and everything else needed from Henry, you will get great service from him.

I think we need a very short sticky based on what I see posted month-month.

Everyone generally agrees the Hornady L-N-L progressives are good presses.
Everyone generally agrees the Dillon progressives are good presses.
A lot of people despise Lee progressives and some love them. YMMV.

There - I've now killed 30% of all threads in reloading and saved the internet. LOL.

Free bullets?
Yet again I've been had...Was it US only or was there specific dates?
I didn't get, nor did I see how I could get this perk...

I think it runs all year long, canada is included in this promo.... you need the upc from the box tho, if you bought it in 2013, you should be good!

Currently, I load .45 acp, .44 Rem Mag, and .223 rem (ar loads.) I'd be hard pressed to give an exact number of rounds loaded but I'd be willing to bet the press has easily paid for itself 10 times since buying it 2 years ago. Some observations and lessons I picked up thus far:

Ball Powders and the LnL powder measure with auto case drop go together like fries n gravy; graphite powder is your friend and will help alleviate static / binding powder issues. To date, I've only used WIN 231, WIN 296, and WIN 748 in hornady's LnL powder system for my AP but these 3 powders meter / drop awesome for pistol / carbine cartridges. The 2 stage shell plate movement, while better than 1 swift movement, still can cause slight powder loss if running the press aggressively. With bottleneck cases like .223 rem I don't have issues; it's when I load pistol with ball powder that things can get slightly messy over time (.44 magnum and Winchester 296.) Spilled powder tends to build up under the shell plate sometimes to the point where indexing can be finicky if not cleaned out.

Tight primer pockets (S and B brass) can lead to the priming stems shaving minute amounts of brass that usually (but not always) jam the priming shuttle and sometimes lock up the press. Consequently, these brass shavings can also build up under the shell plate sometimes to the point where indexing can be finicky if not cleaned out.

LnL bushings, while really convenient for changing dies / tooling out, don't always stay locked when running the press. Tolerance stacking and slight manufacturing variation is a reality with this press but Hornady does offer shim kits to fix this issue. On a related note, hornady also makes a lock shim for press owners who wish to run a Dillon 1200 trimmer on their press for brass processing (looking into this for my press since I'm getting into loading bulk .223 rem for my ARs.)

With that said, I'm not complaining about the press or badmouthing it; these are just common quirks I've had with my press that for my reloading needs is serving me extremely well. If there's anyone reading this who has loaded on the old Hornady Projector presses, the LnL AP is an awesome updated version of the same press. I would totally buy a Hornady Lock n Load AP again although my love for variety is telling me to try a Dillon 650 just for kicks.

P.S. Dillon low primer warning buzzers fit the Hornady AP primer blast tube. RCBS Uniflow powder measures can be rigged to the hornady auto case powder drop and work with the drop tube extensions. It'll look funny but it just shows ya how universal some reloading equipment can really be!

I bought one two years ago, and have been happy with it. I broke it twice, and a quick phone call to Hornady and they sent the parts out for free to fix it.
