CQB in BC now!!

Some lessons learned from the shoot:
1- Mechanical offset. I thought I was dialed in, but I was ~3" low at the 10m mark. This put a nice tight group centered on the bottom line of the 5 box.
2- Understand the matches before showing up on the line. The RSO gave a brief before each serial, but I missed one and it cost me ~20 points.

From observing others:
1- Lube/rifle maintenance. Saw some people with lube less rifles. This lead to stoppages. Everyone should have a bottle of their favorite RIFLE lube in their kit.
2- Stoppages: #### happens, you need to at least know "Tap, rack and go" and how to clear double feeds.

Good thoughts Joe. Personally I tried to run new p mags and it cost me all kinds of points with stoppages galore. I didn't have my kit set up very well either and I think a single point is going to replace the Vickers sling I ran. Just got in the way more than it was worth. And yes height over bore DOES come into play the closer you get. I went a zeroed before hand so everything was pretty well centered for me. I will attempt to post a bunch of Illae's awesome pics tonight if I get a moment.

Targets stood up really well with the plastic sheet covering them.

A lot better than some "Not Eating Ammo" platforms...:p

Seriously, the course of fire/ relay system worked REALLY well; need to tweak the target hanging hardware, and mod the pistol vrs rifle target set up (maybe..), but man, for a first time out, this was a FANTASTIC showing, and organization was to notch. The Mil aspect, payin' off..!!.
HUGE cudo's to "Stat's"..!

I've got some ideas for timing control, so I can actually 'shoot', next go round...
Confidence is high, for the next time..!!

Gunnerlove, hope you can make it over, for the next one!

A big "THANKS..!!" to all who came out, and a huge "THANKS!!!" to the sponsors; Lever Arms, Wanstall's and Dave's, as well as to our lunch truck, from White Spot.
It's turnouts and support like this, that keeps 'real' ranges happy, and good s**t happening.

See you all on the next go round!

Again, thanks all.

Ok, now you guys are hooked. eachtime you shoot you will go home with a new "to-do" list, based on what you think can go better.

Here are my observations. Some of these will make sense already. Others swill make sense later:

CQB is more of a mental shoot than most other shoots. You have to keep your head in the game. Resist the urge to get social with your friends. You have to have the right load out and know exactly what you are going to do on each target exposure. If you fire two shots when you only need to fire one (or vice versa) your score will suffer. If you go to the line with some empty mags, you can suffer big time.

Don't give up. Keeping moving forward and keep shooting. If you get behind, clear the jam and shoot fast and make up with an extra shot or two per exposure.

Smack that mag home! If the action is closed it takes extra pressure to seat it. If you have time, give it a tug to make sure it has clicked.

Make sure your spare mags are located handy for quick grab and insertion. Practice mag changes at home.

We all lose points on four things. Figure out your biggest weakness and work on it. The four things are (probably in order)

- Rifle accuracy. This should be the easiest way to get points. I think all 4s and 5s are possible. Aim and don't rush your shots.
- Pistol accuracy. Many shooters get almost no pistol points.
- Mag changes. Locate mags for easy reach and dry practice at home.
- Equipment reliability. Guns (especially the rifles) need tho be clean and well lubed. You mags should all hold 5 3/4 rounds, so they will easily load into place on a closed bolt. If #5 is a bit stiff, shave a tenth of an inch off the bottom of the follower where it hits the rivet.

Be aware of the rifle aiming error as you get closer to the target. If you use an optic high above the bore, zeroed at 20 yards, you need to aim a bit low at 30 yards and high at 10 yards. At close range I aim at the top of the white patch.

I am not sure the photos will link properly from where I put them - let me throw them up on Flickr tonight, and then we are all free to link away to them.

Here's a short vid. Didn't have much time to take pics, patching targets.

And before anyone notices, and you will, I know it was a brutal mag change that cost me the last 5 pistol shots.
Time went slow in the head, and fast in reality.
A great learning experience though. I was able to discern shortcomings in gear, technique, and mental state.
Lots to work on.
It was great meeting everybody, especially that guy in camo.
