Just about a month ago me and two other guys were out hunting Elk, one of the guys Steve found a Rem. 700, 308 next to what looked like a day old deer gut pile. We had just split up and Steve with in moments seen the scope poking out of the snow, quite the exciting feeling finding something like that. Steve lives in Edmonton and we were hunting west of Rocky Mountain House, we cleaned it up on the back of the truck, it looked no worse for the ware, and then I got a sick feeling. I had heard of things being left behind after a kill. If this was my rifle I would want it back, so we turned it into the RCMP. Steve got a call from the owner last week, he had recovered it from the RCMP office, and very please to have his rifle back. The three of us all agreed that as exciting as it was to make such a find it was even better to knowing that it is back in the owners hands

Hopefully it is as simple as the guy was local and reported his firearm lost to the RCMP. After the kill there is a lot to think about and things get misplaced or forgotten in the excitement . As nice as having a new 308 would have been I bet you made the guys season getting his rifle back in good shape as opposed to finding it years later a rusty hunk of metal .

Makes you wonder why that wouldn't be one of the first places he looked for his lost gun?

If it was next to a day old deer pile, the owner might not have gotten back to the spot before Grock and Co. walked through and found the rifle.
Good for you.

The excitement you felt finding the rifle is nothing compared to the excitement the owner would feel in getting it back promptly and in good condition . Good for you guys.

I found an old classmates pick up truck when it got stolen, barely got a thank you and no reward. Next time if its smaller than a truck im keeping it, people are so ungrateful these days

Dont let one bad experience taint your future decisions.
Your better than that old classmate, and what you do oneday for someone else may have a huge positive ripple effect.

Don't let their bad form take that you did the right thing away from you. Let the deed be it's own reward. I try and do the right thing for it's own reward, not for a reward. If a reward or thank you comes fine all the better...

Amen to that ljones. whatever happened to doing the right thing, because it is the right thing to do? Dont let yourself be deceived, everything we do on this earth is rewarded, in this life or the next.

I think sometimes people don't really think rationally in times like this. Sometimes they may feel awkward showing signs of apreciation. I have been in situations where I found peoples lost dogs etc. and didn't get much more than a thank you, it doesn't mean they aren't truely grateful.
